I've looked, but I can't see anywhere this has been asked already, if it has please redirect me! I'm an exchange student, so I'm here for a semester, and taking upper division courses, generally. I've signed up for all the classes I want to do and have ended up with 19.5 credits...Is this manageable, given that I'm going to want to pretty much cram loads of stuff into my semester and don't want to study all that much (not that I'm adverse to work, stress and winging it if possible)? Absolute minimum courseload I can do, when home university requirements are considered, is 15 units....but the other classes seem so interesting!!!! Advice??

Hi. 19.5 credits is a lot but it really depends on the type of classes you are taking. How long do you plan on staying at Berkeley? Taking to many credits might hinder you from really getting to know Berkeley on a personal level.

I’m staying for a semester so it really isn’t very long. I could drop two courses, one is jazz dance which is only half a credit and seems rather unstressful, the other is Buddhism on the Silk Road which is 4 credits but seems really interesting! My major is environmental Science so unfortunately its not of any great relevance. If anyone knows how much of an overlap exists between Chemical Ecology (ESPM 119) and Molecular approaches to environmental problem-solving (ESPM 192) that would also be a help because then I could drop one of those two, much as I don’t want to.
