I was considering pursuing a degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, but I am just not cut out for the math and science portion of it. The course descriptions for Management Information Systems seems to include coursework in Databases, Supply Chain, and Information Systems (ERP), which are in line with the type of work I want to do. Would MIS be a good degree to get, and later down the road I could get an MS/MBA in Supply Chain Management?

Bumped, as I don’t think I did a good job of asking a clear question.

Would a degree in Management Information Systems be sufficient for getting a job in Supply Chain Management?

No, not really. A degree in MIS is geared toward careers such as system analyst, IT consulting, or really any technical related business job.

What school do you go to?

I’m attending a community college in south Florida, but the only two public schools in the state that offer Industrial Engineering programs are in the central and northern parts of the state. Might not be able to afford moving away from home after CC.

I work in SCM and I think MIS is fine. The only thing is that you’re going to need to show your interest in SCM somehow. Are there any local SCM professional groups in your area? Oftentimes they’ll invite students to their events.

Thanol, what type of work do you do in SCM?
