Hey all I'm deciding between Economics and Management Science right now. Can anyone in Management Science tell me more about the major? Does it actually better prepare me for an MBA? I know a lot of grad schools require a few years of work experience as a pre req. Are job prospectives about equal for a Bachelors of Science degree in management and a Bachelors of Arts degree in Economics?

MS is more math-oriented. you’ll be taking the math 20 series that the science/engineering majors take, vs the 10 series that the econ and non-science majors take

I think Management Sci would put you in a better position for an MBA. It is a more quantitative look at microeconomics and has the financial background that is necessary in an MBA. You definitely want about 2 years of work before applying for an MBA but just keep your grades up in college and your major shouldn’t kill your chances of getting into where you want to go.

MS is better suited for the MBA, but most of my MS buddies double major with ECON/MS because it’s such an easy way to get two degrees in 4 years. Most of them have As and Bs, and most of them don’t attend ECON 1,2 or 3 because it can be all self-taught (and it is pretty straight forward).

But it also depends on the professor, they were lucky in getting easy professors. I looked over my friend’s econ 1 notes and practice midterm, and it was ridiculously easy if you taken AP Micro/Macro

You DO know it’s not allowed for any person to double major in the same department, right?
