Dunno if there's a thread like this already; I haven't seen one.

So how many of you guys are planning to apply for this coveted program ED or RD? With only 50 students in it, it seems insanely difficult to get in :/

I'm guessing most of y'all are choosing Wharton as your 'backup plan'?

Hey RustGust. I’m planning on applying ED to M&T, and deferring to SEAS. I think the essay is going to be challenging for me, especially the part about business, because I have almost no extracurriculars in that area.

Oh cool, man. Probably some neat engineering things though? lol
Does anyone know if there’s a disadvantage for people who defer to Wharton or SEAS through M&T versus going for them as a first choice?

I asked my regional admissions director about this, and they said that there isn’t a greater advantage to choosing one over the other. Choose whichever you are MORE passionate about. In my case, business.

I’m applying to Jerome Fisher, and writing SEAS down as my single degree program.

I wanted to have some freedom in the main penn supplement, so I decided to write about the extracurricular/ research paths that I could see myself doing at Penn. I spent a summer at Penn this year, and I wanted as much space to talk about what I could see myself doing outside of class. I’m at about 600-700 words on this essay. I only wrote briefly about the academic strength of the engineering school at Penn.

For my M&T essay, I wrote my essay like all kids do: addressing how academically strong I am, especially in economics and science, and how amazing the program is academically, and how perfect we are for each other. There’s a strong emphasis on the academic rigor of the M&T program. Also, I talk about my long-term goals, which have a greater emphasis on engineering than business. I feel like about 60% of the essay addresses the strength of the SEAS program.

My question is, will the admissions officer who judges my application to SEAS read my essay that I wrote about M&T? Remember, there is almost 0 mention of academics in my main Penn supplement, and I feel that colleges would want students to talk about it a little.
