Managing a drum set at Columbia

I'm going to be in a John Jay single (128 square feet), so keeping my drums (~25 sq feet of space fully assembled) there would present a large problem, I was wondering if any current students know of any place that a drummer could practice, whether it be with his own drums or maybe something owned by the university, etc.

My son recommends that you e-mail someone in the music department with this question. He says there is a drum set in a practice room in the bottom of Carmen and that some students also store their own drums there. But, it's not that easy to get into the practice rooms when you want, which is why he suggested you ask the music department before bringing your drum set. Hope that helps.

Ok, I'm checking out that option, thanks alot. This took some algebra, I've prepared a picture showing the floor plans of my exact room as well as a scaled square showing the amount of space the drum set takes up. This is a John Jay single, 128 square feet, which is probably one of the largest JJ singles. The black square represents the drum kit, which of course could be moved anywhere in the room that the square could fit (I took a tape measure to the kit and it fits comfortably in a 5 by 5 foot square). However, I do not know the dimensions or locations of the furniture. If anyone who had a JJ single could look at this, and take into account the furniture, and the larger size of this room, please let me know if it could work. Thanks!

Here's the picture:

I can't access the picture, but have you considered risers on the bed? That gives you some storage space underneath for instruments. Risers come in several different heights. I have no idea whether or not that could accomodate a drum set, but maybe some parts of it?

This is with a fully set up drum set. I would have to make the bed over 6 feet high to fit the kit underneath it.

This link should work, sorry

A fully set up drum set raises the question: do you plan to play drums in your room? hmm... you might check into rules on that. Soundproofing is not a virtue of most dorms. That's why there are practice rooms.

hehe, well I do have sound off pads

during my interview I was told that the noise would not be any problem at all, but the space probably would be

obviously I would only play during reasonable hours

I'm almost positive that I could stack the drums and fit the disassembled set if need be

bump

note that the picture is at this link, not the first one:

Man, I'm glad I'm not living near you.

:( a stereo would be more annoying than the drums with the soundoff pads, even the cymbals are muffled, everything
