Mandarin Chinese

Hey everyone, i had a really quick question that if i could get an idea for the answer, then i'd be really happy. here's my question. I am taking mandarin chinese next year at the University near me, and I'm taking the basic 101 mandarin chinese. Here is my question, it really is my question this time, how many hours a day/ week do you think I will need to put into my studies so that I can come out of it with an A? So just let me know, thanks everyone!

It really depends. They can vary widely in difficulty. It shouldn’t be TOO different from any other language because Mandarin is a more difficult language, but your teacher should know that and then plan accordingly.

Unless your class is flooded with native speakers of Mandarin. This happened to me, and I was annihilated.

I feel like that would happen to me. there are so many asians here…
But anyway, I dunno. I feel like I should be able to handle it, but for some reason i don’t have too much faith in myself.
But how many hours? I just wanna know what i’m getting myself into.

well last year when I was taking Japanese at a community college said that you should at least study 2 hours a day. But it depends on you and the individual. It also depends on how comfortable you are with the material so far given, and even then you can always look ahead. Plus it might differ from yours due to I had class 2 times a day and had to put in language lab hours as part of my grade.

But in conclusion probably 1 hour at the minimum and if you can sneak in more even better. But if that’s too much for you then you can make flashcards and sneak it in when you have time or like 20minutes a day.
