Mandatory Dorming?

Hi fellow CC'ers, is it true that all USC freshman have to dorm?

I prefer to live off campus, but I heard this information from someone who went to "Explore USC."

oops! I didn’t see this - for those with the same question as Athene, there is a quick discussion of it in posts 8 and 9 here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1092177-ways-offset-cost.html</a></p>

USC Freshmen admitted in the fall are guaranteed housing if they apply by the deadline, but they are NOT required to live in the dorms. The brochure "[Living at USC](<a href="http://housing.usc.edu/forms/10_11_FrshLvn.pdf]Living">http://housing.usc.edu/forms/10_11_FrshLvn.pdf)" tries to sell you on the advantages of USC housing but it is clear that if you want to live somewhere else or at home, it is up to you.

That “someone” who told you that was wasn’t listening very closely! I would scrutinize carefully anything else they tell you. :)

cc411 is right, as always - we need more posts from you! From the USC admissions FAQ:

[FAQs - USC Undergraduate Admission](http://www.usc.edu/admission/undergraduate/faq/student_life.html)

Wow, I see. Thank you for the information everyone!

unless you have serious financial reasons for not doing so, i would strongly advise you to live in university housing for at least your 1st year.

I want to josebiwasabi. By the way, does anyone know if it is possible to live on campus for only 1 semester? Or is it set for one FULL year?

If you contract for the Fall, you have automatically contracted for Spring. There are exceptions for students studying abroad in the Spring and for those graduating mid-year.

If you apply for housing beginning in the Spring, it is for just the Spring semester.

I see. Thank you for the clear response alamemom.
