We just realized we were charged for health insurance this year, which we do not want. We went through this last year when he was a freshman, and found it was cheaper to insure him through our jobs so we opted out. We forgot to opt out last fall and are now stuck with a $1500 bill.
We'd like to sue, but don't know where to start. Anyone else up the same creek?

Unfortunately I don't think you have grounds to sue unless you want a 'Mcdonald's coffee too hot' type of lawsuit. Since it's mandatory health insurance, they assume you don't have coverage unless you tell them otherwise. You have to opt out every year to prove he's still covered somewhere. In the best possible scenario, I think you can call around & try to get a partial refund for the portion of the year that has not happened yet.

For students like myself, I need the mandatory health insurance. I opted out my freshman & sophomore years because I was covered by my dad's insurance, but then he retired my junior year & had no more insurance. If the opt out was permanent, I'd hate to figure out how to opt back in.

Do you also want to sue your doctor when you show up late to your appointment?
...and people wonder why there are so many frivolous lawsuits

You're SOL - enjoy the extra health coverage for this year.

LOL, the classic words, WE FORGOT.

Not their fault YOU forgot.

Get over it, just be glad he has insurance.

Didn't you post this before and basically get the same responses. Read anything and everything that colleges send you. Keep records. No one to blame here but yourself.

Maybe somebody will agree with you, but doubtful.
