April 21, 2010 -

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — The Manderson Graduate School of Business at The University of Alabama is ranked No. 33 among the 255 MBA programs at public universities included in the 2010 U.S. News rankings.

This places Manderson in the top 13 percent in this particular ranking.

The rankings are based on peer assessment, placement success, mean starting salary, employment rates, student selection, mean GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) , mean undergraduate grade point average and acceptance rates.

Susan West, assistant dean, Manderson Graduate School of Business, said she is pleased to see Manderson’s improved rankings and “is especially pleased that we are ranked No. 33 among public institutions. This speaks to the quality of our students even in a rapidly growing program.

“In addition, these rankings highlight the importance of our relationships with our corporate partners who continue to demonstrate confidence in our faculty and program by hiring our students, even in economically challenging times.”

Manderson is ranked No. 66 among all MBA private and public programs and is in the top five among Southeastern Conference institutions.*

I wonder if the undergrad B-school rankings have come out? Culverhouse slipped a bit last year, and I’m hoping that it will gain back its ranking.

*Mercedes-Benz Launches Graduate Fellowship Program with UA

March 25, 2010 -

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Mercedes-Benz U.S. International (MBUSI) has announced the creation of a Graduate Fellowship Program in conjunction with The University of Alabama – a unique opportunity for graduate students to gain exposure to leadership and management principles in one of the most advanced automotive manufacturing plants in the world. The two students selected for the Mercedes-Benz Graduate Fellowship – beginning Fall of 2010 — will alternate semesters between UA graduate course work and working for MBUSI in Vance, Ala. In addition to a paid scholarship, the program will provide benefits and an offer of full-time employment upon graduation.

“Mercedes-Benz not only invests in technology to grow the bottom line, but we also believe it is equally important that we invest in our people – that’s where our talent and our future lies,” said Ola Kaellenius, President and CEO of MBUSI. “We’re pleased to introduce this Graduate Fellowship Program, which will not only help us obtain the talent we will need in the future, but also will help us develop the business leaders of tomorrow.”

“We are very pleased to partner with Mercedes-Benz in offering this outstanding fellowship to our students,” said UA President Robert E. Witt. “This is truly a rare opportunity for students to earn a graduate degree at The University of Alabama while working with a premier international company.”…

Throughout the duration of the graduate fellowship, students will be paid for all work performed at Mercedes-Benz, as well as provided with scholarship money, a housing allowance, and health benefits. The compensation is as follows:

* Up to $5,000 per semester for UA tuition, fees and books;

 • Housing allowance of $500 per month;
 • Full-time hourly wages of $19 per hour;
 • Single or family health insurance coverage;

The Undergrad rankings arrive in August.

According to Auburn’s MBA website, its grad program is ranked 36th in the nation. What schools were ranked ahead of Bama in the Grad Business School rankings?

Note the UA press release said 33rd in Public Rankings.

According to Auburn’s MBA website, its grad program is ranked 36th in the nation.*

Where does it say that? Historically Bama has had the superior business school.

According to Auburn’s MBA website, its grad program is ranked 36th in the nation.

???

According to USNews…these are the #36 schools…

36
Purdue
UCI
Vanderbilt

Auburn’s MBA program is unranked…so where does that come from?.

Alabama’s MBA program is ranked #66

UA’s undergraduate business program ranked 35th among public undergraduate business schools in U.S. News and World Report’s annual college rankings, fall 2009, and 57th when private universities are included.

I should have clarified, that Auburn’s Grad Business program is ranked 36th among public universities, while UA’s is ranked 33rd among public programs, so yes, UA has the higher ranked Grad program, but AU is close behind.

I have no idea what AU’s national (public and private) ranking is for its Graduate Business program . I only listed its rank among public programs.

And I don’t know AU’s ranking for its undergrad business program either.

The program/partnership with Mercedes Benz sounds really, really cool.

Coolege, do you have a think that tells us more that new partnership? I have heard of that too, but don’t know much about it. Thanks.

The Mercedes program is listed on the Co-op site (which isn’t working for me this morning) http://coop.eng.ua.edu/</a> and the info about the Mercedes program is at http://coop.eng.ua.edu/Mercedes</a> Benz Application Packet.pdf .
