Hello,

I have recently been accepted to both Manhattan College and URI. Does anyone have any thoughts, opinions, or experience with either?

At URI I would chose the international engineering program (german)

At Manhattan I would chose civil engineering

Thanks

As chance would have it my wife just spoke to the head of the civil engineering department at Manhattan college several weeks ago. He told her that for the class of 2011 they graduate 78 undergraduates. All 78 were hired for jobs. Don’t really know about URI. Good Luck.

Congrats on your acceptances! I can’t really speak to the quality of either program…although my son’s advisor suggested URI as a good choice for both engineering and biology (he’s on the fence). I do however live across the street from MC…have for over 20 years…and could probably answer any questions you might have about living in the area, the community, and general life as an MC student.

ChefBoyardee: Civil E is cyclical. Work goes along with construction of new projects.
There is both field and/or office design work. Lot of competition as non-engrs do work as
Civils in construction. I was Civil Engr for 50 yrs. Started in 1953 when Eisenhower
was President. I had good indoor and outdoor joyful experiences. Right now
Obama Admin is not creating jobs for graduates - bad out there.

My husband is federal retiree, originally was an architect but retired as senior level manager. Almost all the civil engineers in his office were Manhattan grads, quite a recruiting network.
