Let’s discuss! I see some folks are starting to hear back for MSoM on their MT auditions and am curious what everyone’s thinking about the school, the process, whatever you would like to share! Audition day was long for sure! My D said the dance call was fun and that the director of the program was spirited and very outspoken. He mentioned that they had roughly 200 applicants and they were only accepting no more than 28 students. I believe this number may go down as they build their program. To start out they probably need 28 to do shows, with no previous MT classes. The auditions were running behind by late afternoon and she was seen almost 45 minutes after her appointment time. The dorms were very small but had great NYC views! Please share something with us about your experiences!
We are here now! Did he speak with parents or just the kids?
Looking forward to hearing what the on campus auditions were like! We toured last summer, and D did her audition at NY Unifieds. Love Luis!
Does anyone know when and how they will be releasing decisions? I read @boatmom’s great story of being offered a place in the program on the spot. Did all offers go out immediately? Or should we hold out hope that there is an offer to come?
I’ve been watching this pretty closely because my daughter received some pretty encouraging words at her NYC Unifieds audition, and so far I know of no one who has been officially accepted yet. Does anyone else know something else?
@craz4mtsmom did they mention when they will be making decisions? I think today is the last audition and that it will delivered via the portal sometime before April 1st, is that right?
I have not heard of anyone officially accepted yet either.
D got encouraging words also but not an actual offer. I believe all results will be end of March.
I just went and asked in admissions. Once all decisions for all majors are complete, an email will go out to all applicants saying audition results are available on the portal. April 1 is the very latest but they strive to have them out sometime the last week of March.
He’s a very nice guy so trying not to read too much into the positive noises lol! Really like this place and hoping though!
He just spoke to the kids and it was during the dance call
Did not hear specifics about notifications so thanks for going after that info! I know 2 candidates that have stated they were accepted…but I do not know the circumstances we really liked the school as well but I can tell that this will be one of the more rigorous programs, he told the dance call participants that you will start your day 9 am and go until 10 pm…he told them it will not be for the faint of heart and they should be prepared to work hard…very hard. My D also received encouraging words in her on-campus audition but this process has proven that it usually means nothing. Someone could walk in there today and bump my D or yours out of the running…just the way the cookie crumbles I guess. The on-campus auditions were very long. We spent the entire day there as the dance call was early and her vocal was not until much later. There was a brief vocal test with an instructor at a piano testing range ect…there was a brief dorm tour. The dorm is directly connected to the school which is nice in the event of rain or snow they could not have to leave building. Everyone was nice but it is def a conservatory setting and not traditional at all. I have never seen so many violins and cello’s in my life The school is in Morningside Heights neighborhood very close to Columbia U so it is very much a college neighborhood. Upper west side so very little tourist. A lovely park right next to campus! Quite a bit of international student body as they were giving MANY English placement test along with the auditions. Overall I liked what I saw but if your S/D is looking to have any somewhat “normal” college experiences this probably not the place for that. That is just purely my opinion though! BAL to all who are hoping for a spot in this amazing inaugural MT class!
Ugh. Wish we had auditioned on campus instead of at Unifieds, where there was no dance call. It looked list most kids were getting a brief in-and-out, with not much of a chance to show who they were. If we’re back on the trail next year, this is one audition we’ll repeat–the program sounds great!
@claire74 I feel that way about a few that my D did at unifieds…wish we could have traveled to all of them LOL
My D auditioned yesterday and was told she was accepted, “in the room” – but I’m guessing, from the way she described the conversation, that this was an exception and I would definitely not assume that this was a common occurrence at the auditions. @craz4mtsmom - my D related much the same info as you gleaned. We had visited and did the tour back in October. I don’t think she’ll be getting formal notification of the acceptance until they send things out to the whole class.
It’s hard for me to remember back, but @claire74 I think that the having a dance call at the on-campus was main reason (along with not overscheduling Unifieds) that we went for the on-campus date, as my D is a strong dancer. And I too, feel like there were a couple of instances where an on campus audition would have benefited my D, though with others it felt like a duplication between Unifieds and on-campus.
@rampions did they mention how they would notify?
@destiny95 I believe it was as @jbrideau said in post #8 here.
Thank you
S just got an email from head of program stating that he would receive good news via another email over next few days.
D received the email this am as well…
