We are still considering MSM. However, Pace (and she loves Pace) has offered a significant amount more in scholarship money, followed by Shenandoah Conservatory. We are doing final visits next week, hoping to have a decision soon. Any thoughts/advice would be appreciated!
I have been intrigued by this program from the very first announcement. I hope those of you attending will keep us in the loop about the program. If this had been an option during my boy’s audition cycle, we would have certainly pursued it. My only drawback was cost. I wondered if it would be big barrier to attending this program. Congratulations for those who chose this program. I’m looking forward to hearing more.
@jbrideau - on the accepted students FB page there seem to be quite a few who have committed - they seem very excited. My D will be going elsewhere, but one of the big reasons for that is that she wanted to be in a different city for college - we live near NYC and she’s in there constantly. The program seems great - I’m sure your D will love it.
My son just committed to MSM! He is so excited! We thought he was going to have a hard time choosing because he got several great acceptances, but he felt like he would always regret not taking a chance on being a part of this new program. Our visit over spring break sealed the deal because he loved the feel of the place and is really looking forward to working with Luis Perez.
@rampions Oh, I’d like my daughter to check out the accepted students FB page – is there an easy way to search for it? We’re strongly considering it also, though cost is an issue!
@MTmomGrace I thinks she has to be added. My daughter can do it (I think-not sure if they have to be friends?) You can PM me with your daughter’s name so she can invite her or have Luis add her. My daughter is attending and a large reason why is this group. She thinks the people on it seem awesome.
@rocsocks there are a few parents and accepted kids in this forum thought you might want to check it out! Congrats again…
My D is very excited to be attending MSM!!! Congrats to all who will be in this inaugural class.
Congratulations to your daughter @pursuethedream!! How many students were accepted into MSM’s inaugural class?
@theatremom10 - they had aimed a class size of 20 to 28 but 49 accepted! I think they assumed with it being a new program more would decline the offer than did.
WOW!!!
Whoa!
Wow! Guess they will learn to use waitlist management next year! What are they going to do in terms of housing and scheduling? So much for those (like my D) concerned about not having the upperclasses around and being so small. Now they’re their own upperclass-equivalents! That’s great news for the program, though - hope they’re giving Luis a raise!
According to my daughter, who has friended a bunch of kids on the FB page, there are several transfers from other MT programs and from the classical VP program at MSM, so there will be some older kids in addition to the first-timers. As far as housing, they require first and second years to live in the dorms and I suppose it’s a lottery for the others, so I guess they won’t have as many rooms available for them. There is a lunch for the students and their parents with the president, advisory board, and teachers on May 14 - I’m hoping they address the class size and how they plan to deal with scheduling, etc then!
I’m auditioning next weekend for MSM. Can anyone shed some light on the audition day schedule? I know the dance call is in the morning and then my individual time is in the evening. So there’s a huge gap. After the dance call am I free to go back to my hotel or something?
@broadwayboy223 My D auditioned at Chicago Unifieds and there was no dance audition, which was NOT to her benefit. The Director of the MT program conducted the auditions himself. Sorry not much info as I am sure the on campus auditions are very different.
@broadwayboy223 - last year there were tours and info sessions you could attend in between, but I would think if time allowed you’d be able to go eat or back to your hotel. We went to lunch a couple of blocks away from the school between Ds dance call and singing/monologue time. She’s now a freshman in the MSM program and loves it!
@jbrideau Thanks for the insight! I went ahead and emailed them and they said I could leave. My mono/singing time isn’t until the evening LOL. I’m really excited and nervous for this weekend. I would LOVE to be accepted.
Break a leg @broadwayboy223! You’ve got this!
@jbrideau Hey thanks! I auditioned last night and I think it went pretty well (knock on wood). I would be thrilled if I got in so now it’s just the waiting game.
