I’m a junior parent, and I’ve been reading and taking in a lot of the threads – especially the final decision thread. I have found it extremely beneficial to read about the journeys that lead to the final choices. I have a question, however. I have noticed that no one is including Manhattan School of Music on their lists that they applied to, nor as their final choice. We have this school pretty high on our list, so I’m curious if there is a specific reason for this. Is it because Perez is leaving? Is it just the newness of the program? Should we be aware of something with the school?
My daughter is finishing up her Sophomore year at MSM and loves it. While sad that Luis is leaving, they are very excited about the new director.
I think you have to take what you read on CC in context of a bigger picture. Those who post here represent just a very small percentage of those who are applying to MT programs overall. I am sure there are many people interested in Manhattan School of Music. From what I understand it is a strong, young program. Having been on here for a number of years now, I have seen different programs rise and fall in popularity on CC depending on the year and who is posting. Their popularity on CC does not necessarily reflect their popularity overall. All it takes is one enthusiastic poster to bring a program to the forefront on CC, or a lack of people posting to make programs disappear from the conversation. It does not mean they are not still good programs.
@vvnstar you are so right! Thanks for keeping it in perspective.
