I know many people have said to stop worrying about others and focus on your own application, but I can't help but being worried.

There are about ten people applying to Yale from our smallish class of ~100 or so. Most of these people are getting the same teacher to write one of their recs. Okay, so not all of them are academically that good, but most of them are.
In addition, a lot of us are applying under the same majors (biology, english) and for the most part our ec's are not that different in terms of leadership (student government versus amnesty president, that sort of thing). Even worse, I really don't want to be hostile in the application, but the other people are suddenly really hostile towards me.

My question is, in what areas can I then attempt to stand out? A couple of points higher on the SAT or an extra A+ probably won't do it, so what will?

Ahhh... I'm afraid that I'm going to run into this plight in the near future as well...

Just work on your essays... especially if you're doing SCEA, since then that means it's your first choice... you know. Teacher recs you don't have much control over, and .... I don't know. Just think about it this way: you only have a few more months until you find out, and then the hostility will probably subside because there won't be much of a point it it by then. ... not that there is much of a point to it now. But I can understand the competitive feelings/hostility --- even as a HS soph I am starting to feel it. Just hang in there, and good lucK!

I know what you mean too. There are at least two of us from my school (which has a weak history with Yale-that I know of, only one acceptance over the past three years) applying SCEA Yale this year. Good luck!

I have a class of about 120 students and literally 25 of them are applying to Yale early. My school has a really good history with yale though. Each year, they take around 50% of the people who apply from my school.

cool. I don't think anyone's even applied to Yale from my school in a long time if ever. Lots of them have gone to UPenn, but not Yale. I think it'll be me and one other kid.
