post but if i'm going to spend 60 bucs to apply, ]]

I only have sec and can't get to all your question. Maybe a student or recent alumnae can. Save your 60.00. Applying online is gratis.

Wow, so many questions! Well, to start with, if you apply online its free, so don't spend 60 bucks. Secondly, you're more than qualified to attend based on your extracurriculars and your academic work. Even though that's no garauntee of admittance, you're shot is as good as any and better than most. Seriously, based on your coursework alone you're a good applicant.

You're going to have to be more specific about international study, do you mean study abroad or international relations/Government?

Smith has the highest number of Fulbright scholars of any college in the country, and we send graduates to the best grad schools and/or into great jobs. So yes, your chances of getting into Harvard or Georgetown, provided you do well in undergrad, are good.

The English program is very good! one of the biggest departments on campus, the profs are great, and of course, this being liberal arts, its a popular major. The French department goodness depends on what level you're at. The very intro class is hardcore intensive, but good prep. The mid level grammar classes (low and high intermediate French) are so-so. They're what I'm in and while they aren't awe inspiring, I get what I need to know out of them. The upper level classes I haven't taken yet, though i've heard they're fun. You can take them in French film, short stories, fantasy writing, etc etc etc, and of course, the abroad program to Paris is very old and very, very good.

The location is AMAZING. Come and visit! Western Mass is not NYC, and its two hours from Boston (and only three from NYC, speaking of), but the town is wonderful. Northampton is hip, its young, its artsy, with a great music scene, lots of stores, tons of restaurants (something like three times the amount we're supposed to have for a town our size), two indie movie theatres. The coed schools are just a short and free busride away (though IMO Amherst the town has nothing on Northampton), but we're not one of those schools where you have to go off campus to have fun. There's plenty to do right here in town, or you can go off. definitley come and visit, though.

Smith is such a safety for you its not even funny =/

Was going to stay out of this one until I read the response from Chibifry. No such thing as a guarantee...period! Come visit and finds out if this is the right school for you; talk to students, faculty, admissions, ask lots of questions. You are only a junior in high school, so take your time and look around. Smith has great programs in all areas that you are interested in, but is an all-woman's school the right fit "for you?" Be careful of people saying that your admission is a sure thing. There are no sure things in life; especially when it comes to college admissions. Work hard, study, and keep your grades and EC's up. And, most importantly, VISIT; at least once!

like they say, nothing's a safety
the people applying next year are so scary
plus smith has soo many fulbrights it's insane
i'd rather be a name and a face at smith than a number at some "better known" college

They're right, nothing's a safety, but don't let other people intimidate you. You are exceptionally qualified, and if you feel like Smith is where you want to be, then go for it. But do come and visit first, there's a lot you can't tell about a school by looking at the website and talking to people on CC. I'm a firm beleiver in atmosphere.

Now you're talking, absolutely correct. Smith is great school with a great atmosphere, and their academics ain't bad either ;) Come visit and compare. Good luck.

So was I b/c I realize my likes and dislikes of Northampton and the area are different than that of a young woman. I happen to love the fact the Quabbin reservoir is close for cycling, picnicking , hiking and relaxing in a secret cove--my fav.

You don't want to know about the coves Bjm8 _LOL

<a href="http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/quabbin.htm%5B/url%5D">http://www.mass.gov/dcr/parks/central/quabbin.htm</a></p>

A safety? While I will agree the op has an excellent chance of admission, Smith isn’t a safety for almost anyone, including a young lady who had the same opinion of her chances. She was accepted to Wellesley and denied at Smith. Bummer! But I don’t know all the specifics or what was in play with that decision.

Bjm8 and S&P pretty much covered the rest. Carry on
