Map of colleges?

I posted another thread about visiting colleges near Albany, NY this weekend. Ended up doing a search on collegeboard to see all colleges within a certain distance from Albany and then picked a couple to visit.

Later this summer, we will be headed to Penn State. Driving down from the Boston area - we'd like to see a couple of colleges on our way down there. Also perhaps visit anything that's close to Penn State.

I'd love to see a map of the route dotted with the colleges that are on the way so we can decide if we'd like to stop there. Googlemaps usually does something like this for restaurants etc..but haven't seen one for colleges! Anyone know where I could find such a map, if one exists?

Google maps should work – for example, I tried “colleges near Penn State” and it indicated the location of a large number of colleges in the area.

deleted because I was not sure if personal info showed up in my link.

Yes, googlemaps does kind of work - although it does show too many links for each college (for Smith college alone, I found about 4-5 pages of addresses!).

That book looks very interesting - might just have to get it. Thanks northeastmom!

Your welcome. I never used Pathfinder. I just have read that many CCers have used it. We just look up schools within a state and perhaps surrounding states. We look at how far the schools are from the area we are targeting by using mapquest and our GPS. If it is a reasonable drive we let our GPS take us there!

I have read that it is sold that this map is also sold at B&N.

I bought this map a few years ago when I was doing a college search with my older son: [Amazon.com: US College & University Reference Map: Inc. Hedberg Maps: Books](http://www.amazon.com/US-College-University-Reference-Map/dp/1593530064) It was amazing to see how many more colleges are on the Eastern side of the US.

Yes that is the one that I just deleted because I was not sure if our account info showed up in the link.

I love my professor pathfinders map!! Not only does it show schools on the map, but on teh flip side it give a littel bit of info about each of schools.

If you belong to AAA you can do a triptik on line that will route you from school to school, with a bit more detail than yahoo or google or mapquest.

That’s funny, NE mom because after I found it and posted it here, I went back to the Amazon site and realized that I wasn’t logged in, so logged in and put it in my cart. I can’t think of when I last saw it in this house. It’s been a few years since I was actively searching - but now I want it again!

There was another book that I got second hand somewhere that had tips on college visits. Ahh, here it is: [Amazon.com: Visiting College Campuses, 7th Edition (College Admissions Guides): Princeton Review: Books](http://www.amazon.com/Visiting-College-Campuses-Admissions-Guides/dp/0375764003/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1244899198&sr=8-1) As you can guess this has mostly name brand colleges and the info is not the most up to date. I wouldn’t pay full price, but it was fun to flip through.

For people who do well with maps, Professor Pathfinder’s guide is wonderful. I bought mine at the local Barnes & Noble.

I second the recommendation for the Hedberg Map: U.S. Colleges and University Reference Map, listed above.

But, as I am often on-line and don’t always have the paper map handy, I’ve found this on-line map to be very useful, especially when planning college trips on the opposite coast. My D and I used it to help us plan a week long, 7 college, east coast tour.
[College Map | US College Locations](http://college-map.com/)

On closer inspection, this map isn’t the exactly the same as the one we used last winter. But my hard drive crashed and I no longer have that link. Has anyone found a different on-line map of colleges?
