That bright pink area that’s the new quad of the SEC is interesting. I didn’t realize that that area would be having any progress right now. The completion date was the 20th…don’t know if that has slipped or not. I just didn’t think that landscaping was going one while Phase III was being completed. Maybe if all the Phase III work is not interior work, then it was possible to do landscaping.

Anyone been by that area to know?

I don’t see a date for the Phase III completion. Am I overlooking???

I really like this map! It’s a more updated aerial shot than what I’ve seen on google maps.

I don’t know how accurate the dates are, but I too thought the aerial shot was cool. The UA Gameday FB page posted the link for those that hadn’t been to campus since last season.

I’m sure this has been mentioned, but is there a new dorm being constructed over on the way to Ridgecrest, Lakeside, etc? I saw big cranes

Yes…a new dorm is being constructed by the Riverside dorms.

If you look at the map where Pink 2a and 2b are noted, below that is the construction of the new dorm. I believe it’s going to be more than just a dorm. Something is going to be on the top floor to take advantage of the River view.

SEC Phase III is supposed to be open Spring of 2012.

I think Feeno is right. However, I also remember reading that construction (external and internal) would be completed in November of this year.

^^^

Then that’s a delay. Earlier it was Jan 2012…in time for spring semester.

this still says …Jan 2012
http://eng.ua.edu/buildings/serc/

I am almost certain that Spring semester begins in January.

Yeah, I meant Spring semester 2012. Sorry, I thought that was implied.

lol…when I saw “spring” I thought you meant like April.

oops!!!

I’ve been told by several engineering folks that Phase III will be open in time for spring semester classes, but construction will be done maybe in late November or December. What really gets me though is that the destruction of HM Comer’s back end began!! sniff the location of my first engineering class! Sadness :(

I understand…but progress must go on when it comes to STEM.

Been an eyesore imo for years.

I believe it’s going to be more than just a dorm. Something is going to be on the top floor to take advantage of the River view.

A 360-degree revolving bar like the one atop the Hyatt Regency on Memorial Drive (Cambridge, Mass) would be nice.

But I guess that wouldn’t jibe too well with UA’s alcohol policy, LOL. :)

UODATE: Gosh, looks like it doesn’t revolve anymore. Bummer. That was the coolest thing about it!

LadyD, three words: special event permit.

FWIW, the 2nd (really 3rd) Subway is now open between Bidgood and Alston halls, along with the [formerly Bidgood] Bistro (coffee place). We were promised a 2nd Starbucks, but that didn’t happen.
