MAP Requirements and Summer Classes

Hi, I’m a HS senior now and will enroll in Tisch + CAS next year, probably taking animation + computer engineering. Can someone clarify the MAP requirements for me? Like my SAT, IB and AP’s cover most of the requirements. As for Contemporary Culture, it seems like 4 years of humanities in 4 separate areas (see http://www.nyu.edu/cas/map/exemptions/index.html#cw). So I’m planning to take 2 college classes in UCLA summer school to finish them off first, in order to focus more on my double major in NYU.

For Conversations of West and World Cultures, is it true that “…no exemptions or substitutions…” means not even UCLA credits can transfer to fulfill MAP?
Expressive Culture: I’m not worried about this, because my animation major would include a lot of approved courses (& nyu’s film/art teachers’re probably better).
Societies and the Social Sciences: so far this area seems the clearest target to kick off during summer. But can I only choose from the 6 courses listed in that site?

My main hope is to finish MAP asap...i'm thinking whether ucla art history + US history would work for me....

The contemporary cultures component of MAP is four courses, not four years. I'm almost certain that those classes will fulfill elective credit, not MAP requirements. You could take a Freshman English class this summer to place out of Writing the Essay. I think that's the only one that would apply, but I wouldn't take more than one class over the summer anyway, because summer classes are intense due to time restraints and you want to have some fun before you leave home!

home..., flying to UCLA summer school around late June, then flying to nyu 20 days (fun days) after that ends. I'd like anyone to confirm the contemporary culture issues I have, anyone who had graduated and know very well on credit transfer?

Also, do you have the web link to nyu's official forum where administration/staff members usually answer questions in three days? Cuz i lost it and really want confirmation.

angelnikki1, i think humanities is 8 courses-8 semesters-4 years. I saw it in B.S. Comp Sci curriculum requirements. And I thought who's so crazy to waste their life on those if their busy enough with double major? Anyways it's a uni of 'balance', not a tech school, so i accept that fate anyhow.

I think i'm wrong there. Specific for my curriculum, I need about 54 credits in Film/TV dept., 48 credits in CompSci, & 44 in general education. Now 8 semesters of humanities is unlikely because 32 of 44 GE for humanities is unlikely, and most ppl seem to finish GE in 2 years. And GE detail in the film page implies that I don't need a humanities course from each of 4 areas. So far I get inconsistent answers from the phone calls, so I'll keep trying.

Hey gopher, I'm in film as well. Our first year, we take three required courses (two film, one called writing the essay which cannot be passed out of) and then are given one elective...

Well those wouldn't be MAP requirements

Hi Safiamilke, yeah I saw you around the forums for a while. I'll see you soon (I'm going to aug 28 orientation, coming?). I figure if the worst case happens that my credits don't transfer as GE, perhaps it can fill up the # of electives required. I hope these electives won't have requirements like "it must be animation related...". Tell me if you know anything about electives.
