That is an amazing increase in selectivity in one year, as the selectivity of colleges is usually quite stable over time. If you looked at a list of colleges ranked by admission rate in 1980 vs. that of 2008, you’d be hard pressed to identify which year was which, save for USC ascension from the lower rungs to the mid-upper echelon.

Having a S with SAT’s well above USC’s mean, and a GPA well below, I am encouraged by USC touting their average SAT in this press release (with no mention of GPA). USC obviously particularly relishes the reputation-enhancing effect of the SAT average, which my S’s admittance would serve to further elevate.

I’m freaking out here in New York!!!
I just got waitlisted from BC yesterday (which was actually a good surprise). I got into a ton of schools in Boston and NY, but USC is my only chance to enjoy the Cali sunshine!

Haha, your son sounds just like me! My SAT’s are over 50 points higher, but my GPA is .3 lower than the mean. Hopefully I can counterbalance the low GPA with my strong Activities and Essays as well. The only thing I’m sure about is how competitive my area in NY is for USC. I know for a fact that BC takes very little people from my area on purpose, so I wasn’t so surprised when I was waitlisted. But I have no clue about USC.

Check this out kids…Vandy went from a 34% admittance rate to a 23% this year…talk about selectivity…apps up 30.7%, Mid SAT scores up 70-100 points…

joy. maybe that explains my ED vandy rejection!

well this acceptance rate for usc officially means that I didn’t get in.

Yup, we are expecting 3 out of 4 rejections/waitlists for the remainder of my d’s list as well…better start stocking up on cold weather clothes…

BC came out on monday, but i’m estimating that it comes in the mail today because of my location.

well i wish all of you luck! it’s a painstaking process of waiting haha. i’m well below averages but hey, usc prides itself on intensely reviewing applicants for other factors other then stats right? ^_^

i guess i got rejected…which means i’m going to NYU…

ah…from SoCal (hour and a half drive away from USC..i was actually at admissions a couples days ago lol..)…didnt get any letter/package today…

i have a feeling tomorrow…ill update everyone though…ah

HK I live in SoCal too, Thousand Oaks to be exact and did not receive anything today. I am hoping I get something tomorrow since my status was changed 3/26 but I am pretty pessimistic. I guess I will have to choose between staying home at UCSB or freezing my butt off in Ann Arbor.

I am a high-SAT low-GPA candidate myself, hope that’s what USC will favor.

Good luck to all of you!

haha Mr. Frizzle, your trying to come to cali, and im trying to leave.
still waiting for bu…

im not sure if I will get into usc. My gpa is fair- 4.2 but my sat is embarrassing.

could i ask what was your SAT score?

scratch that, bu posted 2 seconds after that. got in =]
but still waiting for usc

Congrats!

That’s funny, every school I toured at in CA was full of California girls who all told me they wanted to go to school in Boston.

I’m from Boston, and I am dying to go to school out in California.

lol what schools did you look at in cali? I got into ucsb, and uci as well. I mean california is absolutely gorgeous, and you cant get better weather! I figure Im going to come back here after college though, so better to explore!

USC is the only school im still waiting for from cali. I only have two more left now besides that.. cornell & nyu. =]

USC, UCLA, UCSB, Occidental Pepperdine, USD, Claremont…a lot, basically, but I didn’t apply to all of them

UCSB is tight, I didn’t get in but I love Santa Barbara, I’m gonna be living in Isla Vista this summer

You’re right, you can’t beat the weather (or the surf unless you head out to Hawaii) I’d never leave if I lived there.

Good luck on those schools. I’m waiting on USC, Vanderbilt, and a couple others.

Argh, if I get in, I’m going… they meet full-aid, right?

Still waiting on 'SC, Tufts, NYU, Pomona, and Pitzer. Waitlisted at Stanford and Syracuse lol.

ok the UC system is weird.
my friend got accepted to UCLA and USC and rejected from UCI… ***?? does this make ANY sense at all?

i’m in hawaii and i’m leaving lol
