uci probably knew they were the back up and the uc’s communicate with eachother so if they knew that ucla accepted them, then they probably figured that they would choose UCLA over UCI and left the space open for someone else.

thnx gbv thats actually the smartest reponse i got from someone all day.. my mom thought the same thing too.. but one of my friend thought that UCI is doing this cuz they wanna feel cooler than UCLA and rejecting more people hahaha =PP

haha no problem…your friend’s idea is pretty tho lol

If that is indeed the case, then I think you need to re-evaluate the reliability of any information you are getting, because this is simply not true. With upwards of 55k applicants at UCLA and 35k at UCB, there is no way in hell they have the time to exchange information on who they are offering admission to. Because of sheer volume LA and CAL finalize decisions much later than UCI, so for a substantial fraction of the applicants there is no way for Irvine to know whether Cal or LA will admit.

Yes, the decision is weird, but I am sure that there is a good explanation for it, a hook perhaps, that one school chose to account for and the other ignored?

well i’m sure your fine with being accepted to UCLA.
great school

idk, i could be wrong, u could be right…i just know that i got a letter or an email can’t remember from the UC system stating that although the schools you applied to will consider ur application, other UC’s will also consider it in case they think you’d fit into their school, and right afterward i got an email from riverside that was expressing interest,i didn’t really care but that let me know that they have a shared network . also, if you can check the status of your application and it tells you all the UC schools you applied to if you go to the main UC website. on that site it does say that they don’t give admissions decisions on it, but its not like it would cause that much more of a hassle for them to post who got accepted to their own and have it all filter onto a network that all the schools can see. I mean, they post ur decisions online, so how would you know that the information doesnt feed to a shared network? i know i’m thinking a lot about it…but i know the schools at least have a shared network, especially considering that there is ONE application for all of them. and they can also see all the schools a person applies to on their fafsa, (even tho finaid and admissions is diff, they can still look at it if they want)..whether or not they post admits on it or not, i would not know, its not unlikely considering it wouldn’t be difficult to do it at all. if they have the ability to share to which the schools an applicant has applied, i doubt that it would be hard to share who was admitted…idk when uci makes there decisions, so u could be right about that too. u could be right about all of it. idk

~42k at berkeley.
