Marathon= E.C.

^ It’s a worthy and admirable undertaking. But is it an extraordinary sort of “hook” in the context of college admissions? Probably not.

Actually, yes I would dismiss it for health reasons alone. Indeed, I mentioned those in my first post. :)

2:03:59 was my last one.

There you go. Doing a marathon is nowhere near a hook and it really will not differentiate you from the 20,000+ applicants at X college.

No, they wouldn’t. Not everyone does running as an EC, nor does everyone want to. Even those that do run XC/TF realize that succeeding at their distances as part of a team is much more fun and satisfying than running 26.2 miles alone.

I have to agree that starting or completing a marathon is not a substantial achievement, and the fact that you are asking if can put it on your app makes it SEEM like you just want to run it to add to your application.

I finished my first marathon in 3:29:17, but the thought of adding it to my college app never crossed my mind. I just ran it under my dad’s company’s sponsor to raise money for charity.

By the way, to be frank, jamesford’s time is bull-excrement, seeing as that time (2:03:59) is the male’s world record for the marathon.

What a bunch of cynics. All OP asked was whether he/she could put it down as an EC, but you naysayers are making it sound like it’s part of some dastardly plan for worldwide domination.

Yes, it could count as an EC.

And no, this mom, doesn’t consider my marathons the pinnacle of my academc achievement; my ultra was much more taxing. :)

^ You mean athletic achievement. And Protagonizer, I think jamesford is aware of the record and just intended to make a joke.

Argh. I butchered that whole sentence. lol
