March 10 Essay

I don't know what the heck happened here, what kind of essay gets a "9" score? I didn't think mine was that bad. They must have taken off a whole point for the little error I made in reference to a well-known novel, lol.

I don't even know what the hell happened with M/C. I usually get in the 700's. Got a stupid 650

One of my friends had that problem -> she is amazing writer and she got a 9 too! While I (someone who can't write for her life) got a 12.

Here's what I did:
1) my essay was over 600 words long (fill up the two pages)
2) lots of big words
3) three examples with the last one being personal

I'm sure some people will disagree with me, but it worked for me:)

naidu same w/ me, i got a 10 though, but i used EVERY line (i usually don't do that) and i had 3 examples, 1 being a (made up) personal...

^ this might seem excessive but did you use big words?
I made up my personal example too

i got an 800 on writing with 80 MC but 9 essay. I thought it was almost impossible to get 800 with anything less than an 11 essay regardless of MC score.

i got a 9 as well. Maybe because my essay was only 4 paragraphs?....I guess i'll go for 5 next time.

I would have used big words, but my vocab is horrible and I didn't... I used about three to four vocab words that are slightly big...

btw, def try to make it 5 paragraphs ( opening, 1st example, 2nd example, 3rd example, and closing)

I got an 800 Writing with a 12 essay and I thought for sure that my essay was really bad. One of my examples was YouTube (yeah...I know lol) and my conclusion was only one sentence, scribbled, and it started with "In conclusion" lol. no idea, i just got lucky i guess.

I got a 10 on my essay. I used the hippie movement, something from Walden, and the national average GPA being a C+ as examples.

I got a 10 on my essay with only 3 paragraphs and no conclusion :P

12 on my essay with no conclusion!

Granted my essay wasn't as good as my normal school work, but I got a six on it, which was somewhat shocking. It was fairly long (about two pages) used several examples, and utilized a somewhat big vocabulary. I didn't expect a 12 on it, but I was hoping for at least an 8 or 9. should have made up examples

Siblius, looks like you had a sucky essay grader...

I got an 11 (and an 80, so an 800 overall).

I filled up all but the last two lines, had a clear thesis and conclusion, used big words (albeit incorrectly a few times) and had two examples (1 historical, 1 literary (made up, but based on a major novel)).

"big words," hehe, that's funny.

i got a 12 using 1 example, 4 paragraphs. i've found that using 1 example works best because you can expand on it more, whereas using two or more, you have to "connect" them. in other words, going from personal example to walden is not a smooth transition, even if both of them work.

12 with just two examples.

i think its pretty random as to what theyre looking for.

12 with two examples -- Einstein and Hemingway. Somewhat eye-catching intro and conclusion. Probably not Pulitzer quality.

For those of you who got 12's, do you take AP Lang & Comp? Because I am preparing for the May SAT exam, and from what I am reading in the prep books, if you just write a short AP type essay, your basically made, which are really really easy to write after writing tons of them in class.
