March 10th SAT Discussion

what was the daunting/congenial question? Anyone remember?

ye i'll see you guys in june....

edit: kathy it's right up there

Jazz musician working environment: Daunting
Explanation: The question said he worked under tough conditions ranging from merely daunting to downright intimidating. Congenial would make no sense because all conditions were said to be tough.

Oh thank God, Cory! I thought I was the only one... Thought I was living out the "unique and different" essay prompt there for a moment... ha...

I'd like to add to my reason, though. The mother was not only talking to the girl, but to the boys as well. In fact, the excerpt gives the indication that the mother's statement was directed more at the boys than the girl. After all, she said "Another" big sister. Her American daughter does not have another big sister that she could add Kwan to.

Does ANYONE know what #13 on the grid-in was?

Not to be rude, but everything else has been discussed to hell and back in both threads but nobody has said anything about that question.

lol sry aaa...it was probably an easy question, so no one seems to have remembered it

anyone think that the curve for CR will be really generous, like maybe three wrong being a 790 or an 800, instead of a 770 or 780

I know I'm freaking out, but this could be crucial difference between me retaking this stupid thing or not... ( Anything below 2300, I'm retaking )

cory: I meant "Does anyone recall the actual question?" Because I can't remember any question with daunting/congenial at all!

I'd be in heaven if it were like that, naidu. Here's to hope, I guess... Luckily, of all the ones discussed here, I only think I missed one. Hopefully, that is all. If so, does anyone know what my chances of getting an 800 on the CR section are? I mean, based on past experiences with the CR section, of course...

well....it was a sentence completion, not a reading question, if that's what you're confused about. But, I don't remember the EXACT wording of the sentence. All I remember is the two most likely chioces were daunting and congenial

evan, if you only got 1 wrong, then you probably got an 800....congrats

Wait, could it be that some of those were experimental? Because I don't remember anything about "moratorium" either.

The Jazz singer worked in very difficult conditions, ranging from merely ___ to extremely intimidating.

There was a moratorium on whaling. It was the last question on one of the reading sections.

crap...i guess i automatically assumed that teh answer should have been an antonym of "intimidating". Wow, that's another wrong. I'm getting closer and closer to 700. I may have even scored under 700. =(

OMG yeah I put congenial too - I remember now!! Uh oh! :-(

Darn, I am now at a solid 2300, unless if the math curve is really nice, then I have a 2310.

goes to corner at cries, waaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh...*

Math was supposedly my best section, too

Oh no, a 2300! God forbid. Chill out, naidu. Even the Ivies do not require that you have a 2300+. If you have over 700 in each section, you're good. The SAT isn't everything!

i know, but for my parents it is :( :( :(

Arg...and even daunting sounds wrong to me. Isn't "merely daunting" almost an oxymoron?

anyone remember the other choices to the founding fathers nod question? Was one of the answer choices passing something

I think you're thinking of "passing notice"
