March 2005 SAT - Easier?

I understand that the SAT is not actually curved but centered...nonetheless, do you think the first administration of the new SAT in March '05 will be centered more generously than the subsequent May or June '05 administrations?

If it's not, I would imagine that people would score considerably lower on this first administration, since nobody has actually seen the REAL test directions, or REAL test problems. Would Collegeboard try to make up for this by centering the test higher? (for example, allowing a person to miss multiple math questions and still get 800M)

Also, does the new SAT have an experimental section? That'd be no fun. :-/

I'm not sure about your first question, but yes, the new SAT also has an experimental section.

What is an experimental section?

I think your missing the point. The whole point of "centering" is to make sure there is an equal distribution of scores. So if there were somehow no 800's, the scores would be recenentered to match the data. But then again this is only from what I've heard with the scaled scoring, so it could be wrong

I thought the SAT was pre-centered before administration - as in, they don't take the performance of those who actually take the test into account when creating the "curve".

Extrapolating this further, it would therefore be disadvantageous to take the first administration of the new SAT, because everyone would (theoretically) miss more questions, and the centering wouldn't make up for it as much as on other administrations.

Please correct me if I'm wrong on any of these issues

I don't think it will be any different.... they design the test around the materials available to prepare etc.. etc.. many measures are taken to keep the tests VERY similar

" because everyone would (theoretically) miss more questions"

why is that?

i cant really believe that any new review material will be published in the few months between the first march testing date and following dates....

and aside from having 3rd party publishers produce (even more)accurate tests/books, what else is there...

That's basically it...maybe I'm reading a little bit too much into this...but nobody, including the 3rd party prep companies, has seen what the test will actually look like (although CB has released enough material to make some assumptions about the format and contents).

Case in point: Look at how much 10 Real SATs has helped everyone - because it is an accurate portrayal of real test questions.

Anyway, I'm basically trying to decide whether or not taking that first March 2005 SAT administration would be disadvantageous as compared to maybe the one in May or June.

yea i hear where youre coming from. my gc is advising not to take it in march, however, i believe she is a charlatan(yay sat words)

im taking it in march anyway though. collegeboard has already released their version of the real sat's. they can obviously not release a real version of their book for AT LEAST another 10 testings ;p

companies that have hard proof of what the sat looks like do not have enough time to publish material before may/june, so that is not a benefit. the only advantage i could see is hearing about it from friends/ cc'ers... but really that wont help much i dont think. plus as you get closer to may/june... you need to worry about sat II's and AP's

also if you test in may, you would need to have your scores rushed to you to know if you need to retake in june.... youd maybe even have to take it as standby in june depending on how late your school lets you sign up.

take it in june- you need to wait for next year to retake....

id say go march!

I''d have to agree with lbtg that isnce the college board has already created 8 tests( in the new 10 real Sat's- or is it 8 now?) chances are they've got their test pretty set.

Just out of curiousity though, woudl the college board even have the tiem to generate a test in a few months? They owuld have to if the march test affects the questions on the may and june test.

Yeah they did make a 10 Reals for the new SAT, so I guess if we use that, we will know what the test is like.
