March 2012 Curve, Scores, and Canceling Discussion

Was it easy? Medium? Hard? What about the individual sections? Will you be happy with your score? What's your score goal? Are you considering canceling your scores and need advice?

Compared to the Jan 2012, I thought that the math had more "medium/hard" questions, writing MC was better, essay topic about the same (east of Mississippi), and CR easier.

um math was so much harder than january (hoping for a -1 800 curve), reading imo was easier overall (again hoping for a -3 800 curve) but i hated the politics one, writing was about the same it was just as easy…im hoping for a 2300 but thats unlikely so chances r im going to retake in june…

missed two in math, therefore i am canceling.
i think i would have caught those two mistakes had i not been that concerned with cr vocab.

I thought essay was just a bit harder than easy. The CRs were hard for me as thats my worst part. Writing medium. Math best part i think i got like 700-750ish so easy mainly cause i skipped like 3 on math.

I think the curves will be as follows.

Math -1= 780
Reading -3= 800
Writing -1 10 essay= 800

But that just my two cents.

^ I really hope that’s the case because that means i got 2380

Does writing ever allow -2 12 = 800?

If not that’s just horribly unfair -__-

of course it does!

@grisam that’s very common

Desperately hoping for >2280, or else I will have wasted $50. Definitely did better on math this time around, but I’m really really iffy about the Electoral College CR passage.

do colleges know if you use score choice?

I thought the math was about the same, maybe a bit easier than January. CR was markedly harder than January, but I also thought Jan CR was very easy, so. There was just a bunch of hard sentence completion (luckily this is a strength of mine, hoping I got out unscathed). None of them was crazy hard, but just a large volume of difficult vocab. The passages were okay, maybe slightly harder than January. The Writing wasn’t too bad. A few tough MC, but I happened to like the essay prompt a lot.

Overall, I’m quite sure I got one wrong on math, but I wouldn’t be shocked if there was some stupid mistake made somewhere. Hope not. My very optimistic score is 2380 (if there’s a -1 = 780 Math curve). Should be over 2300 but it all comes down to Math.

Is it March 29th yet?

Math seemed really hard. Probably got like -3 :(. Electoral College was the only semi-hard (inappropriate double entendre?) CR for me, and the rest of the test was relatively easy, especially the writing which I aced no problem.

I don’t know what was up with the math though. On the practice tests I could consistently finish in 20 minutes but I found myself going up to the very end on this. Meh, as long as I got around 2250 overall I’ll take it.

I don’t know about you guys, but I though the math was very easy. I think I only missed one. Then again I’m only a freshman.

Before you go to sleep tonight, just pray for a -1/800 curve.

I’m sorry if I’m completely ignorant, but can anyone either explain or point me in the direction of a clear explanation of this curve everyone’s talking about (both on this thread and on others)? I took the SAT for the first time today and honestly have no idea how I did, though I was neither aiming for nor expecting anything above a 2000. As it’ my first time, I just assumed that the tests were scored and that was that…I omitted a few (well a lot in Math) here and there, but I don’t know how this curve factors in to things? Can anyone help me out?

hey guys! i have a friend who took it in jan & got a 2200 (730 CR, 740 M and 730 W). she had typically been doing well on the writing practice tests (800 or 790). she retook today & thinks she probably got a 790 or 800 writing but knows math is worse (she omitted 3 & got one wrong) & CR is worse too.

should she cancel her score? (she will retake in october next year)

@EmHann - i dont know much about the curve either (i took it in nov & did well so that was that)

i think if the test is harder (like apparently the math was this time) then the collegeboard sets an easier curve meaning that instead of -1 being a 780 -1 will be an 800 [i totally made up those numbers, i dont know what it really is]. also generally critical reading has a nicer curve than math & writing (meaning you can get some questions wrong & still get an 800)

The electoral college one was easy. The first one was talking about the flaws in it and why it needs change and the other was talking about why those who critic it are wrong and that is is fine the way it is. The questions were easy.

I don’t know; I actually feel like canceling… on the october SAT I scored a 2250 with a 700 math and a 750 verbal. This time I think I screwed up my essay and mathmatics big time(-3) and did poorly on the verbal portion(-7+) I don’t want to get a lower score than I did last time.
