<p>About the lawyer one, yes, in normal use, but is a conjunction and except is a preposition. However, the usage of but was as a preposition in this sentence.</p>
<p>I got upon arrival for the last question in the last section. The answer: when one arrives in, does not make sense because that would call for the repeition of one, since that word is used later.</p>
<p>Did anyone get the paragraph about Lewis and children’s books? I could not follow it for the life of me. I thought the entire piece needed to be rewritten lol.</p>

<p>It was variety of. The original sentence was grammatically correct but used “different” and “varies” and “variety” all at once. If you say “variety,” it implies that the mallets are different.</p>
