March 2013 Math SAT Discussion

Hey guys! I figured (per @Medicalboy's advice) that we should just split up the SAT discussion into specific sections so we can have more of our questions answered.

Does anybody want to compile a list of answers that we have so far?

Also, feel free to post how many you think you got wrong, and what the curve will be!

what did yall get for the reading passage about the really smart kid, the question was about the principle sending him to a school. I put down general pattern.

Lets try to remember all the math answers. I’ll start off.

20- f(x)=f(x-1)+4; answer= -5

p= -1/2
difference between terms= 20
kids around table= 3
median= both I(8) and II(9)
venn diagram= 1
which is -r= B- (rb-ra)/(a-b)
rate of rain & rainstorm, hours= 2

9.5 or 19/2 for price of shirt
combos of juice= 6
3200 for area of triangle
4xrad3 for similar triangles
50 degrees for x,y in two triangles in circle
70 degrees for y when x is 65 degrees

^everyone put that so it’s probably right, I put Unusual reaction to a common phenomena because it said that during that age people only went up to secondary school or something.

Anyways what did you guys put for the question where there was a circle centered at O and it asked for y. I put 40 because x was 50 and the side opposite to x was longer than the side opposite to y so I thought y had to be smaller than x.

Which years was the job offer one? It asked for the ratio of job offers to available positions or something. I put 2006-2007 or choice C (I think)…

Also,
155 for the area of the similar triangle
37 for population (rounded)
9 for the abs(k-2)<5

@IndiPride I had 50 because I used vertical angles to find that the two triangles were similar so the angles were the same

Was the equation for the line l y=4 or x=4? I put x=4 but I seem to be wrong…

How was the kids around table question 3? I’m 99% sure it was 2.

y = 4; I thought at first it said line l was parallel to the line x = 0 (thus, a vertical line) but reread and saw it said perependicular (thus line l needs to be horizontal). y = 4 is a horizontal line that passes through the point (x, 4).

Edit: also, for 3x + 2y = 34, one value of x+y is 12.

@jjfine96 I was about to say the same thing…

@thnk it was (ra - rb)/(b-a)

essentially the same thing but yeah it was B

it had to be 2 kids cause 2 of the 3 kids already sitting were 2 sits apart

Which section was the experimental one? Did it have a question that was something like find the 8th term in the sequence if each is 5 times the previous one? It was #18 of section 5 on my test.

But if anyone else had an extra math section, which one do you think is experimental?

what would 3 wrong get me score-wise?

@stevepark I had 4 CR sections, and the math section with the 8th term question you’re talking was one that I had

does anyone remember the math question with the pattern thing of 2 digit integers starting with 1112 1314 1516 1718 etc or was this experimental?

I had a section with 123412341234…

asking me the sum of the first 33 terms. That was probably a different question though.

i did not have an 8th term problem i think so thats probably experimental

and was the kids around a table 2 or 3 cuz I think I put 2 but I can’t quite remember now

and 1234 was find the sum of 33 terms so that is 81

I don’t remember a 1112 1314 1516 1718 math problem and I had 4 math sections, which should include the experimental one. Is it possible there are multiple experimental sections for different tests?
