I requested the March 12th audition date for UMich’s straight acting program. I know this sounds kind of stupid, but will it hurt me in any way to be auditioning that late in the game?

If this is indeed a stupid question, then I’m wondering, too. So you’re not alone! :)

It can hurt you.
Michigan does rolling admissions and so they accept as they go. One of my good friends here didn’t get in because he auditioned on the last day and they had already filled up. Then he auditioned the next year and came as a transfer…
Also, I think the deadline to apply for merit-based scholarship is March first. I’m not sure about this, and you should probably call and ask, but I know that if you audition on the last day, you are ineligible for scholarship money from the school of music.

But if you call the School of Music Office of Admissions, you can ask them any question and they’ll try to help you answer them!

Thanks - I moved my audition date request to a day closer to the middle of audition season before I submitted the app. =)

I wanted to just add to this discussion. My daughter is a freshman MT at Michigan and she auditioned last year on March 6th, which was the last audition to be considered for scholarships. She received her acceptance email on March 16th and she received scholarship money as well. So for those people that have auditions in March there is hope!
