Son just got a letter from UD advising application decisions may not be made until sometime in MArch..seems a bit late compared to many other schools. Anybody know why they are so much later than most?..

Because that’s the way they do it It’s kinda funny that every year people get crazed about the date but that’s just how they are. It was the last place I heard from.

Yes, that’s just the way they roll. I think part of it is their commitment to Delawareans, but after following this procedure for so long, I think that’s the way they plan to keep it. It was also the last school my daughter heard from too.

Of course, it’s not really late in the sense of preventing you from going to or accepting anyplace else if not accepted at UDel. It just means that if you want to come to Delaware, you will have to wait til then to find out.

It’s a unique place in lots of other ways too, and worth the wait,

I agree with mhc48-UD is unique in many ways. It is the only major “public” university where the majority (about 2/3rds) of students are from OOS. Delaware residents begin to hear about acceptances much earlier (I believe beginning in January, if not earlier). Based upon in-state acceptances UD then has a better of idea of the number of OOS students to accept to fill up the slots remaining. This is just a guess on my part. Actually UD did have “early decision” for OOS students willing to commit to UD but they did away with this about 5 years ago.

Actually NCAA Basketball stole the term “March Madness” from UD-just kidding. But check out this board beginning in late February and you will see what I mean.

It was about the third weekend in March for my DD (who graduated from HS in 2010 and is now a UD sophomore). It was kind of anticlimactic – not nearly as exciting as the first acceptance the previous December, but it was really a no-brainer once she got that acceptance. And then accepted students day was really fun because she knew she was going there. We brought the deposit right to admissions - thinking that would add to the excitement - and we were disappointed that there were no fireworks!

But she was already obsessed with UD :)

The wait is killing us.

ok…appreciate the insight…i guess we wait…

Yes it is quite painful…the wait. My D applied to 7 schools and heard as early as Nov from several of them. Her first choice was Delaware so knowing it was going to be the last school to hear from was frustrating. In the end I think that is all forgotten as she is one very happy freshman and loving everything UDel has to offer. Couldn’t have been a more perfect fit so the long wait was worth it.
