Well, there can't be any real proof. They do the curve on a statistical bell curve based on how everyone does. They can predict how people will do, but there's no way the college board can KNOW how people will do until AFTER they've taken the test. Everything till then is speculation.

Someone posted here once that they got a 780 M with one wrong, so that math curve is possible. But it's harsher the farther down you go.

Wouldn't the introduction of (slightly) higher math bump up the curve (slightly)?

that math curve is DEFINITELY possible, just not nice.

I'm glad they made it harder; too-many dumbasses were getting 1500-1600.

y'all remember the beautiful psat math curve of 80,76,73 dontcha? lol

yeah youre right mensa. too many people who just studied their life away and got 1500+ then make people who had no prep and ****ted around and got high scores look bad.

I think it's likely. I don't know why people think the new SAT is going to be so much harder that it's going to have a great curve for the first testing. Maybe slightly more lenient, but that's it. I don't really care because i'm not taking it until may, so whatever.

no, the SAT "curves" are not how you may seem them to be, they are in actuality pre-determined scales, developed from experimental sections and psats...this scale was disclosed last week, as the Princeton Review people said they just received it from ETS, (the title of the paper says explicitly "Source: College Board Test for the New SAT"..PR will be used this scale to score the diagnostic tests from now on. The "curve" looks a lot like how the many recent SAT tests have been scored, for example, everyone thought that on the Jan. 22nd sat there would be -2 or even -3 800, it came out -1 wasn't even 800. So yeah, this is the scale CollegeBoard will be using, maybe with slight variations.

i thought id bump this because more ppl are asking about the likely curve of the new sat..

omfg this is gonna be so scary runs away crying T_T

I talked to an official from the Collegeboard and he said that the math curve will be very tough, however the writing and reading will be "nicer" he said you shouldn't expect anything too great

now that i think about it, that math curve is BRUTAL... 2 wrong = 760 3 wrong =740?!?!?!

this is gonna be baaad...

yes khalid bery bery bad

I guess since reading/writing makes up 2/3 of the test, they had to stiffen up the math a bit to not favour the reading/writing buffs over the math buffs.

look on the bright side, if this is true.....

a harsh curve could potentially mean a relatively easier test

I just looked at the range in the cb's official sat book and compared it to the curve you have here. In the cb book the scores are given in ranges. It seems like the math curve is exactly the midpoint of the range for math, but just slightly higer (or more generous) than the midpoint of the range for critical reading and writing.

I suppose this would mean that if you took one of the practice tests and in each section scored in the range of let's say 700-780 you could expect to get a 740 in math, but a 750 or 760 in reading and writing.

So far it makes sense to me, the range prediciton in the book is more or less the same as your official "curve." But I still don't understand how CB can give out the curve before the results are in. Won't the longer test, which will test the endurance of most of its test takes, make for more wrong answers by the time we slug on to section 9 or 10 and shouldn't this effect the curve?

Hi sorry, but i have a quick question. How is the Sat writing portion graded because i know there are 49 mc questions and a essay out of 12, but the curve is out of 73. Does tht mean your essay is multiplied by two then added to your mc score? thanks for the help

YOU LIEEE!! YOU LIE!!!!

and that psaat curve was freaking harsh on math... i missed 1 and got a 76... grrrr

anyhow, i dont believe you guys on knowing the scale already (and i don't want to belive you either)

same here ilovetocamp... maybe it's denial... but i really don't like that math curve... i always get one wrong because of carelessness

there will not be many writing questions..

verbal will be easier.. tnx to NO analagious

math was never hard..
