<p>Because it said he contrasted with the descriptive painting techniques of the Europeans, and the author said he painted honestly and straight forward.</p>

<p>It wasn’t unpretentious manner, it was unpretentious quality/qualities. Maybe that’s why you don’t remember it?</p>

<p>what were the question for this one? I remember for one of them i put something along the lines of autobiographical manner (the one that referenced his exposure to decorative art in europe) because they said he painted realistically.</p>
