March SAT Writing Thread

I remember not putting an answer with a semicolon because it did not work.

I put 14 also

@hotinpursuit it has to be sentence 14 cause sentence 8 talked about experiments, but nothing about group learning or whatever. Sentence 8 was just talking about getting through mazes faster than pigeons/mice and unscrewing a lid, but sentence 14 was around when they said after the untrained octopi saw the trained ones pick the ball, they learned to pick a ball as well.

I think the letter was D or E. Wasn’t it question 11 or 12? I remember it being at the bottom right of the page.
Answer was as a result of either __ or __.

@ jubilant, CrzyGmer789X2:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/1064295948-post150.html

i think it was suggesting the use of planning, foresight,
or something to that effect

“elections: as a result of either…” letter was E.

I remember not putting an answer with a semicolon because it did not work.

yea

I didnt put choice A

cause it was like
[sentence], an average penguin stands ____
I thought it was a comma splice

Choice B was like
[sentence], [something here], stands ____

Choice C I think was like
[sentence], the average standing ___

Choices D and E had semicolons I think

That would sound right Mentos. I don’t wanna confirm unless someone shows all the choices cause I was narrowed down to 2 so I don’t know.

semicolon was definitely not the answer for the penguin one. i remember my answer having the tense “standing” though, following a comma.

its after 14 because thats where the major discussion about experimentation with behavior took place.

“elections: as a result of either…” is definitely correct.

What was the question where “return back” was redundant? Anyone remember the sentence?

what was the one with the king penguins (or some specific species) and started off with “1.5 centuries ago… blah blah” in section 10.
was it

“but, according to…”
or
“according to… however”

@mz

ok good

I put the one with standing too

I think it was C but that doesn’t seem to go along with the people who said there were no C’s in Section 10. Personally, I can’t remember whether I had C’s but I do remember putting C for the penguin question. (A and B the comma is not used correctly and D and E the semicolon is not used correctly.)

So standing is correct, or C.

Also but, according to is correct.

The return back question was something about migrant birds returning somewhere. “Return back” is incorrect.

What was the answer to the one with technological problems in Medieval Durham (The city I took my test in), involving concrete?

Penguin one I put C; it was the only one I was really unsure of in the one that wasn’t section 10.

it something like “around” march 19, “flocks of” some random bird “return back” to their home which is like “6000 miles away” in some random place in Argentina or something.

Consolidated Writing Section

Section (Long):
No Errors (There were 3):
Hikers that went through the forest with the canopy (top right of first page)
Indian writer that used colloquial English (middle right of first page)
Unathletic boy who became adept at Ultimate Frisbee (bottom left of second page)

Idiom Errors:
succeeded in –> should be succeeded at

Redundancy Errors:
return back (top right of second page)

Subj/Verb:
abundances —> abundance

Tense:
Had went
Have —> Had (romans concrete)

Paragraph Improvement:
However —> therefore
Number 35 —> sentence should be placed after sentence 14

Section 10:
Last 5 answers are EDEEE
Elections as a result of either … or …
Portraits question (last one) was misplaced modifier. Answer was E.
Penguins [__], the average standing at 45 inches tall. Answer was C.
but, according to (other answers had comma splices)

Oh jeez…I did so poorly on my essay! I only had 1 body paragraph… I thought the topic was really confusing and difficult to explain with examples D: Great…my first real SAT, and I bomb the essay

what’s the highest score I can get with 3 paragraphs in total?

wait im confused now

was the penguin question in section 10?

and if so, was the answer "C?

For the penguin question I put,

The emperor penguin is the tallest…, the average one standing…

It was the only choice that didn’t have a comma splice or incorrectly used semicolon. For the election one, there was a colon…? I remember it as:

She won the votes as either a result of x or y.

You guys are writing

She won the votes: as either a result of x or y.

Why is the colon there?
