For those of you who plays an instrument in marching band, what instrument you play, how long have you been playing and what sort of honors have you been received?

I played saxophone for 3 years in high school, top band, state band, drum major my junior year. I quit my senior year(this year) due to lack of time.

I've played the trumpet for six years. I haven't recieved any honors though :p.

Alto Sax for almost 10 years now.....currently am a Junior

I played high school marching band two years with flute... No honors. Quit junior year due to course conflict. Chose APUS.

I went to a godlike marching band school in socal for 2 years until I moved. We won every marching band competition we went to my soph year. My frosh year we went to the Rose Parade. For honors and stuff I was in Hawaii Honor Band, Hawaii All-State Marching Band, Clarinet Section Leader, probably next year VP or smth. I get to march Rose Parade again this January =D

I've played saxophone for alomst 7 years now. i
ve been section leader for 4 of those 7 years and have been in bi-county bacnd only, because I usually have to choose between honors with band or with singing and I usually pick singing.

Mellophone, six years, no particular honors.

Is it just me, or is the band the smartest music extracirricular? Seriously, at my school a bando is val or sal (or two bandos fill both positions) practically every year. Chorus kids never achieve that. (:

I'm in band and I'm val. lol.

Tooooooooooooooooooooba!!

Since middle school I have played at some time or another Tuba, Trumpet, Alto, Bari and Euphonium. 1st Chair all throughout High School and All-County on the Bari 2 years in a row. Hopefully All-State next (senior) year on the Tuba.

<- Wanna play my quads? :-D

Alto Sax.....8 years.......Section Leader

Ps: also val...lol. I guess it's a band thing...

More like a CC thing

=D

See, the val/bando thing is a trend! It may be partially CC skewing things, but band kids are often top students. I'm not sure why, exactly... Maybe band camp provides life lessons necessary for academic success?

r val ans sal r bandos

My senior year marks my 9th year with an instrument in band. 3rd in marching band.
trumpet -> euphonium -> TUBA/SOUSAPHONE!

For marching band, I was nominated Band Capitan and squad leader this year by my conductor. There were some other things for concert band.

In response to the people who say band is the smartest musical program at their schools, I would have to say orchestra is here.

Our marching band is amazing, though. Places really well at BOA Grand Nationals every year.

Our sal was in marching band frosh and soph year. she's still in symphonic and wind and all that.

i'm in color guard! i got captain senior year. i got the blue devil band pride award last year. it was basically for writing out all the certificates for all the people in wind ensamble, color guard, winter guard, jazz band and pit in calligraphy. lol

Well, our marching band definitely seems to separate itself from the rest of the student body. They stand separately along this rail after school, but I can agree that they are definitely one of the most academically advanced groups of kids in school. But I'm joining marching band next year! Kind of nervous since I don't know anything about it, I know nobody in it, and the music director's upping the intensity of marching band next year (she was new last year). Well, I'll make friends at band camp I guess. I'm doing trumpet.

i play euphonium in marching band. i was a marching assistant my soph year, and im gonna be a section leader my junior year (already tried out). i'm in the top band, and ive played since 6th grade. i'm val for my class and in every class the vals are bandies. probably wont quit band until im out of college (even then i will buy a horn to play). ive earned so many awards its not funny. i got the john phillip sousa award, outstanding brass 2 years in a row, best beginner, and 2 others.
