Hey,
I've heard from many people that marijuana usage is pretty prevelant at UMich, even moreso than other universities. One magazine, High Times, ranked it as the 3rd biggest "stoner" school in the nation in 2002. Is this actually true, like what percent of students actually smoke?

Look NattyDread, all public and private universities have drug problems. Everyone wants to smoke weed, you'll find pothead everywhere you go. Michigan's students are pretty wealthy, plus it is very close to the drug infested Detroit, but I would say only 2% of the students look like stoneheads. A lot of the pre-meds I met care about their life, and don't do anything like that. But one said he smokes weed once in a while to get some stress out which is very understable as a college student. You don't have to be a stone head, just don't get yourself mixed in the wrong crowd. Plus no one cane force you to do anything you don't want to do. Thats basically the advice of life and you shouldn't be concerned. Ann Arbor is a live city, and there are so many other things to do except smoke and drink. Michigan is top knothc in academics, research, sports, etc... near great restuarants They have amazing gym rooms also. Don't make that small factor above not choose a great university unless its a huge problm, in Michigan's case it is not. Most students think of their future there, but because its such a big university, many also don't... Also becuase small magazines like High Times don't get the correct statistical data, they tend to makes up a lot of c***. Good Luck

Thanks for the response, you seemed to be getting a bit defensive though, I wasn't attacking the school or anything, I was just curious. And I already sent in my admissions deposit to Michigan so its not something that would change my decision at all, I actually have nothing against pot.

Sorry if I sounded defensive, its great your going there. BTW, do you live in Michigan or are you out of state? Also would you post your stats, ec's, on the other link if you haven't yet, so future students can be helped out. Thanks and good luck.. What are you planning to major in?

Nattydread, I think Michigan gets a bad rep because of Ann Arbor. I love the city, but it is a very liberal town and the laws governing the use of Marijuana are very loose to say the least. I think it's like a $15 fee if you get busted or something ridiculous like that! Plus you have the Hash Bash that takes place every April, when thousands of stoners come to Ann Arbor from all over the nation to demonstrate for the legalization of Marijuana. They basically sit their butts one the Michigan campus and smoke pot all day! LOL

But Michigan's student body is not much into drugs. In fact, of my close friends at Michigan, not a single one smoked pot or did any other kind of drugs. Obviously, you do have a few students who do drugs, but it is not any different than at any other university.

Detroit doesn't have a bigger drug problem than any other major city. If you don't live in Detroit don't talk **** about it.

I don't think anybody bath-mouthed Detroit in this thread.

"Detroit doesn't have a bigger drug problem than any other major city. If you don't live in Detroit don't talk **** about it."

No, Detroit just has a murder problem. They've slipped from #1 to #2 however. C'mon boys, you're only a few more murders per capita away from that #1 spot! Camden aint got nothin on you!

Let's face it, Detroit is a ****hole.

Speaking of marijuana, Hash Bash is this saturday at HIGH NOON! :)
