"If your RA finds out, he won't care. He really, really does not care. And since your RA is more often or not your friend and someone you get to know well, the last thing he wants to do is get you in serious trouble for having a little fun and relaxing."

That's not necessarily true. I know several people who have gotten busted for pot--a reasonably close friend was kicked out of housing for it. My school is particularly strict in some of the dorms.

Well, yes, true. Experiences will vary. I know of serveral friends at a few schools who have gotten "caught", and the RAs don't really care. Some even join in.

Yeah, I'm not going to lie, first time I smoked was with this boy who I could tell had smoked himself retarded. I knew I never wanted to be like that. I've never done it more than once a month, and I could tell that my memory was a little less clear when I was taking a test on a Monday if I had smoked the previous weekend.

But all this talk about oooh how much better you could've done if you hadn't. And that miniscule difference really doesn't make a difference to me. As someone else has already said, there's a lot of other stuff out there that's bad for us but we do. And if you don't want to, by all means don't. I can absolutely respect that, but I am a firm believer in reforming marijuana laws because it's ridiculous that something known to be much more addictive and lethal such as alcohol is legal, when marijuana is not.

The only way they would drug test is if you're an athlete. If you're just a regular student they do not. Also it takes about 2 weeks, a month is the absolute maximum, and you would have to be a very heavy smoker and have it in your system for it to take nearly that long. But if you just do it every once in a while 2 weeks should be fine.

smoking pot is awesome. i plan to continue smoking in college (if your at UCLA, well blaze it up!) and i plan to excel and continue on to grad school. what now suckers?!

Regardless of its effects, for good or for ill, it is a federal offense to possess marijuana. If you find you have friends who are doing it, help your friends stop committing felonies.

i dont think its a felony. if you look at most employee applications in California, when asked if you have been in trouble with the law it says to exclude all offenses that involve marijuana.

having a personal amount (up to probably an 1/8) is only a fine i think.

In California, up to an ounce is subject to only a fine, and a fairly small one at that. Chances are pretty good that if you get caught with a small amount, it will only get confinscated. I even have teachers that know I smoke, and they don't care because I'm still at the top of their classes. I don't think posession of under an ounce is even a felony, but I'm not sure. Now, I don't know about other places, I've lived in Cali all my life and hopefully I'll be staying here for college.

Kentmoney: With luck, I'll be at Pomona, about 45 minutes away. I'll stop by on my way to the beach!

I actually asked this question when I visited my school, and I've gotten the same answer from almost everyone:

Its there, people do it (probably more than in high school), and you can find it if you want it or avoid it if you don't.

I think drinking is a much more serious "problem" in college. And keep in mind also, that just because someone smokes, it doesn't mean theyre out to make you a pothead also.

For those of you worried about the consequences. The biggest problem with weed I see is for people going into either politics or jobs that drug test. It takes 28 days (I checked w/ the da) for weed to get out of your system. Also, for anyone thinking of getting a job that requires a security clearance, stay away from it...they care not only about what youre doing now but what you did 7 years ago. Weed isn't worth not having the future you want. As much as I believe it really isn't that harmful, especially compared to other drugs, it can hurt your job opportunities. This sucks when you think that tobacco and all is still legal, but thats life...

omg...i can't believe how full of crap marvin is!! lol, its almost funny if it his ignorance were not so sad. MARVIN! read some real studies for goodness sake, not just one or two that say what you want to believe. I'm sure when one smokes, their IQ is temporarily lowered, as I'm sure it is when you and others believe in senseless and mostly unproven propaganda. you are obviously not a scientific type, but thats ok, to each his own.

"Weed impairs short-term memory and cognition and adversely affects motor coordination, although these setbacks seem to be reversible once the drug has been purged from the body. Smoking marijuana also poses health risks that resemble those of smoking tobacco.

On the other hand, the drug has clear medicinal benefits. Marijuana alleviates pain and anxiety. It can prevent the death of injured neurons. It suppresses vomiting and enhances appetite--useful features for patients suffering the severe weight loss that can result from chemotherapy."

Anyway...the part about preventing the death of injured neurons is my favorite, since drinking alcohol actually damages neurons, so I'm thinking that if I smoke AND drink I can prevent some damage! ;-)

I agree with everything that keelee said except what she said about ivy students not using things harder than pot. When I visited a friend a Harvard we went to several parties where not only was everyone smoking pot and drinking, but people were snorting coke right out in the open without anyone batting an eyelash, which leads me to believe that they were not in the least bit surprised that it was going on.

the hindus were the first to smoke pot 10,000 years ago. they and the buddhist, as well as many other societies used marijuana in religious ceremonies until european colonization effectively put an end to the practice, making it socially unacceptable and eventually, illegal. now, the drug of choice by the roman catholic church, alcohol, no more safe than any other illegal drug, is legal and socially acceptable.

In colonies in America, coloners were required by law to grow marijuana because hemp was used and needed for many purposes, like paper and rope. Ben Franklin and George Washington were known users of marijuana, as were many other founders of our country.

I didn't mean to imply that other drugs aren't used, but it is less common. I know Coke and 'shrooms are easy to come by in Chicago, though their use is nothing like weed.

alisone05: if you aren't going to read through the entire thread, don't post. We've already been over the fact that yes, marijuana does lower IQ but no, it is not permanent. We know this, and we don't need to go through it again.
