Marine Bio at Harvard vs. Brown

I have been researching marine biology concentrations at Brown and Harvard, but would love to hear from concentrators at those schools to get a sense of which might be better. I have visited both schools (like both, though they're quite different) and sat in on classes, but that only tells part of the story. When I Google marine biology programs, Brown usually isn't listed (typically, Harvard and Cornell are the only Ivies listed). Considering Duke also. Thanks.

Maybe you know better than me! I understood there to be a “designated pathway” in marine bio & evol biological oceanography (within organismic & evol bio). At least that’s what it says on the OEB department’s website.

That’s quite possible–it’s not a full concentration, though. If I were you, I’d look at WHOI’s info to begin with, rather than individual college’s information: [Undergraduate Resources : Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution](<a href=“Page Not Found - Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution”>http://www.whoi.edu/page.do?pid=9125). I did once look into colleges with marine bio designated programs, and Harvard isn’t really one of them. We’re a college at which you can take a concentration and do ocean-related things within it. It’s also not something, clearly, that I’ve heard of. I do spend my time in the social sciences, though, so that may not mean much. On the other hand, it’s not a Presence on campus on the way it might be at some others.

Would you concentrate in OEB if it wasn’t particularly ocean-focused, rather than, say, Molecular and Cellular Biology? You can become a “marine biologist” with any specialty that there is in biology, pretty much. It’s not much more restrictive than “land biologist.” (Although your username suggests that you would prefer the former.)

What about looking at Stanford? They have the Monterey
program.
