Hi there,

I am currently a sophomore at Michigan State University. I am finding myself overall unhappy with being here. I don't feel engaged in my classes, I am not fond of the town (sorry fellow Spartans :( ) and I am finding myself more interested in pursing a degree in biology with a concentration on marine biology. I am thinking of transferring to a school that has good research opportunities and a solid biology or marine biology program. I am looking at schools on either coast as I also am interested in more generally living in those areas (sick to death of the midwest).

I do intend on getting a masters and perhaps a PhD as I know that is really the only way to get a job in this field.

I am wondering with my stats (3.3 GPA currently, zoology major with a french minor, have credit for the equivalents of bio I/II+lab, chem I+lab, english I, gen. ed. humanities, as well as various electives; after this year I will hopefully have credit in organic chem I/II, calculus I, and my upper level english) what places I should realistically be looking at.

I don't aspire for the Ivy League, but I am currently considering UMiami, FSU, San Diego State University, Cal State Long Beach and Monterey Bay, Occidental College, Oregon State, and UHawaii. I don't have that much money for application fees, so I was wondering where I should narrow my search down to? Please help.
