Can anyone suggest some good schools for graduate study (MS and/or PhD) in marine biology or fish ecology? I am very much oriented toward field biology (as opposed to lab. biology) and I am interested in any areas associated with aquatic environments (salt or fresh water).

You couldn’t go wrong with either of the two big names in marine bio (MIT-WHOI and UCSD-Scripps), although you have many options. Others that immediately come to mind include

Boston U
Duke
Oregon State
Texas A&M
U Alaska-Fairbanks
UC Santa Barbara
U Hawaii-Manoa
U Maine
U Miami
UNC Chapel Hill
UNC Wilmington
U New Hampshire
U Rhode Island
U South Florida

U Wisconsin (limnology)

Check out the PhD programs here to look for potential fits:
[US Schools offering Marine Biology degrees - MarineBio.org](http://marinebio.org/MarineBio/Careers/US-schools.asp)

I’d recommend taking a look at [Northeastern University’s Three Seas program](http://www.eastwest.neu.edu/). It’s a Master’s degree program in Marine Science with a strong emphasis on field research methods rather than classroom learning.
