Marine NROTC scholarship notification/

Hello - This is my first post here. My son has applied for the Marine NROTC scholarship. The board met last week. Does anyone know how applicants are notified of acceptance/rejection? We are in Colorado if that information helps. i know it's competitive and I am on pins and needles because he wants this so much. I checked the website and it still says his application is being reviewed. Do they call you, email you or send a letter? Thanks in advance for your help. BTW he has a 3.5 GPA, 2030 SaT, 3 years of varsity athletics, was JR class president, volunteers, serves on student gov't, several AP classes... you know - the typical wonderful son and student (aren't they all!).

The first place you are notified is on line.

When was his complete application in?

Thanks for replying. I think his completed app was in in mid January. He completed his first interview and then was called in for a second interview. There were only five applicants called back for that second one. He interviewed with a Major for the second one. That was about a month ago. My son called his recruiter Monday and he said the board had met. I don’t know how many scholarships there are but it seems like there are now five kids vying for maybe 2 or 3. I really have no idea though. i just hope my son sees his dreams come true. :)

Check the portal at https://www.netfocus.netc.navy.mil/nrotc/status_scholarship.aspx</a> .
I was awarded with the scholarship today! Ahh! so excited!

Happymom, there are hundreds of Marine applicants for an unknown number of scholarships. Your son is not competing with those called back for a 2nd interview. He is competing with applicants from the entire country. His odds are better with the Marine scholarship than with the Navy side though.

He is at a large disadvantage by applying and interviewing so late though. He really should have had his application and all interviews complete by Sept 1 to maximize his chances by getting the application in front on the greatest number of boards. I think there may be a few more boards left though.

If he does not get the scholarship he can join ROTC as a College Programmer and compete for a 3 or 2 year scholarship.

Congratulations, soursop09!!!

Good luck, happymom64 . . .

Congratulations!!! You must be so happy. Can you tell me how you were notified please. I have been checking the portal and the message is always the same…it’s at Marine headquarters for board selection. The waiting is stressing me out (mom), DS is fine because he has backup plans but he is also very hopeful. Thanks for letting us know :)

Thanks for your post. My son didn’t know about the scholarship until he started going to his local Marine recruiting station to get information about the Marines. He has been working out with them once a week for months. They encouraged him to apply for it. His odds should be as good as anyones. All the kids seem to have great grades, high test scores, leadership positions, varsity athletics, part time jobs…etc… It’s a mystery as to how they select. If this doesn’t pan out he is going to look into PLC. Either way, he’s accepted to his college and he will find his path. I don’t think he can reapply for the MO ROTC scholarship if he is accepted into PLC. By hook or by crook I 'm sure he’ll make it to where he wants to be. It’s just nice to have that path be your first choice.

If the web site says no decision has been made then that is a fact. If his application has been reviewed by prior boards then not having been selected yet means he was passed over at those boards in favor of other candidates. He will be rolled over into the April boards which I believe are the last ones.

While his application may be just as good as anyone else’s his odds are diminished because he applied so late. Less boards to be considered at and it is a bit of a red flag to have an app come in late.

But he still has a chance until the web site says otherwise! The web site is the first way he is notified. Check every day.

Best of luck!

My S had a NROTC scholarship (class of '09) but his good friend who went to a university w/ no ROTC wanted Marines. He went the PLC route and was very happy with it.

my son has gone before the Marine PLC board in August, this past month. How long before he will be notified of his result? And how? through his e mail? thanks!
