Marist 2025

Marist is my DD’s #1 but without more merit it won’t happen. She got 5K less than we expected.

I hope everyone gets in where they want to go

D is still waiting to hear from Marist. It’s not her #1 or #2. She’s gotten into both of them already.
As a parent, Marist has an attitude that you have to kiss their behinds to prove you want to attend. My son had the same experience nearly 10 years ago. Jump thru hoops trying to get in.
It’s a good school, nothing more.

Did anyone appeal merit?

@Zanda0712 It was but it hasn’t been for awhile fortunately since she was deferred. I’m glad I saw the postings on here because I wouldn’t have known it was an official deferral. I would have thought they just wanted more info.
She doesn’t have a 1st choice right now. She applied to mostly smallish Catholic schools not for religious reasons but so she would get (hopefully) a reasonable education without super strong stats.

I did. Still waiting to hear back

Was thinking about it but I don’t think it would be enough. They would need to give max merit to be competitive and I don’t think they would double current merit offered.

My D applied EA in late November and received her acceptance letter in the mail yesterday = ), but I can’t believe the cost of attendance for Marist is so high!!!..Only about 10,000 less than Syracuse University and Syracuse gives A LOT more money in grants through their CSS Profile for students.

Most private schools are expensive. Very different schools though. I liked Syracuse but my DD didn’t. They don’t give huge merit. I’m not expecting FA so we took it off list since it’s even more expensive.

Yes. private schools are expensive, but in my previous case about 5 years ago my older daughter received about 39,000 from the CSS Profile from Syracuse. It was her dream school and was actually only about 2,000-3,000 more than her other NJ choices after the profile money. So, there was no doubt she would go to Syracuse compared to other Public NJ schools. (Not that NJ Public Colleges are bad) She LOVED Syracuse, but my younger daughter that just got in to Marist said she liked Syracuse but wanted to be closer to home so she didn’t even want to apply to Cuse.

We are in NJ too & our states schools aren’t cheap. My DD is bet Marist & Monmouth but still waiting on 3 others. We are headed to Marist Sat for accepted students day. I asked Marist for more merit. Fingers crossed we get it. Hoping to hear next week. We need at least 5K more per year

We need to request more merit money from Marist too. My D is still waiting to hear from Ramapo College and TCNJ. She should know around Feb. 1st from Ramapo and TCNJ by April 1st. I think she is leaning more toward Ramapo because that is closer to home, but we will revisit her top choices before making a final decision. Good luck to you.

Has anyone had any luck accessing their financial aid package? I got an email saying that I would be able to access my financial aid package through MyMarist. Then I got a letter in the mail and I followed the directions to log into MyMarist. But there is nothing my the financial aid section that mentions the 2021-2022 school year.

@hsgal83846 it says starting 1/25 & each week more will be released

@hsgal83846 just adding on to this, it will be sent to both your personal and Marist email accounts from the 25th.

What is a good timeframe to ask if a decision was made for merit reconsideration? We submitted 12/14. I figured after the holidays but nothing yet. I’m hoping it will be in the financials next week. Going on Sat to the accepted students day. Should I ask while there?

I’m not too sure, but hopefully soon. I would guess with or around financials next week. As for asking, it is definitely up to you, but I would ask (and explain why you need more merit aid)

Check portal. My daughters merit info is on there. It wasn’t there yesterday but I logged on and saw they added info for 2021-2022. Good luck!

thank you! my financial aid was there as well.

They gave what we asked for in merit. I am so happy for her. This has been her top choice since we started visiting schools
