no one else received their letters last night??

Nothing in VT yet…maybe today?

nothing at our home in Central Jersey but our mail stinks lately. Hoping for something today.

nothing here on long island yet

lefty1 D DEFERED I CANT BELIEVE IT SO DONE

@miesha5 I know how hard this process is and getting a deferal is not what you guys were hoping for. It does all work out in the end though. She will find her place and a school just for her. A deferal is not a rejection so hang in there and tell her to start selling her self to the school she hopes to go to. My S has a deferal from another school as well so I can relate to the waiting game. Hoping to hear from Marist today or by tomorrow as well as the last few on his list (one of which I believe is on your D’s list as well)

THANKS for the kind words its hard i only have one and she really is a great kid worked so hard i don’t even know what to do for her called the school had her grades sent she made high honor roll both quarters i don’t know what else to do good luck to you

hang in there miesha sent you a PM.

nothing here in MA yet!!!

My D just got a deferral from Marist. That’s okay, because she received acceptance from SUNY Oneonta, Iona C College (w/$17K scholarship), SUNY Stonybrook, Loyola Maryland, St. John’s University (w/$13K scholarship), University of Scranton (w/$12K scholarship), UVM, and the school she will be attending in the Fall… Siena College (president’s scholarship - $15K). Not sure what Marist is looking for… but it is definitely their loss…

my dd’s boyfriend is at Siena

My dd has gotten in to Purdue, Penn State, U of Maryland, Drexel and was even deferred from Tulane (no rejection) and was deferred to U of Georgia!!! Sometimes there is no rhyme or reason!

Got acceptance letter on L.I. 8K scholarship

@miesha5 - ive heard from past years that as a deferred student Marist takes into consideration how much interest you show from now until whenever they send out regular-applicant-pool decision letters. Ever since i applied in early November i was emailing admissions & my counselor constantly to let them know i was very serious about attending Marist in the Fall, so showing your interest can only help!

@hopmayer - thank you! my stats are:
GPA: 91
Rank: 10/86
SAT/ACT: didnt send either

EC: various sports, volunteer work, and leadership positions. Also, National Society of High School Scholars member & National Honor Society member in my school.

Essay: Good (personal opinion)

Teacher/Counselor Recs: Good - didnt get to read, but I’am very close with the teachers who wrote them & they knew about my passion for Marist

Ethnicity: Guatemalan (adopted) - maybe that helped because of my ‘diversity’

Hook: Mother graduated 3rd in her college class from Marist, Cousin attended, Father does work for them occasionally; i.e. their commencements every year, staging & lighting for presentations & student affair events, and pestered admissions A LOT to display how serious i was about attending

and i live about 45 minutes away from Marist, so that’s probably why I received my letter yesterday

Deferred with a 1920 SAT, 3.9 GPA, and 29 ACT.
Accepted to Fordham with 12K/year, Hofstra’s Honor College w/ 25K/year and Ithaca College with 18K/year.
Maybe it was because I did not show much interest but I am still pretty surprised.

jpet96 you poor thing thats insane your parents must be so proud yet so surprised at marist who needs them anyway you have such good choices word has it you are president of your student body you go girl

did not receive the letter today :(

we live like 90m south of the school

In VT and son’s acceptance letter came today! He is in… And @jpet96 my son also got into Ithaca-Park School of Communication. Learned a long time ago, there is no way to figure out the minds of admissions.

Deferred … 3.4 GPA, 27 ACT, captain of one sports team, mgr of another, officer in DECA. Also accepted to Iona with large scholarship, University of South Carolina, East Carolina, High Point, Temple and Johnson & Wales Providence with a good scholarship as well (haven’t heard about $$ from the others yet). She is more disappointed than I thought… I told her it doesn’t mean a definite no, but her AP Stats grades for first semester aren’t stellar (C+) so I’m not very optimistic. Good luck, everyone!
