Marist College or Binghamton University?

I was accepted to both Marist College and Binghamton University, but I am having a difficult time discerning which institution to ultimately matriculate at. As a low income student, financial aid will play a crucial part in my decision in regard to each school, but until I get my financial aid package from Marist, I want to know which institution you guys will opt for.

Marist is giving me 5000 dollar merit scholarship for my academic achievements, and which is renewable each academic year. But Marist is private institution, and I am afraid I cannot afford to attend.

We choose Binghamton over Marist. Since it is a big school it had so much more to offer. We did not like where he freshman housing was at Marist. We excepted to be wowed by Marist but was underwhelmed. The fact that it was 1/2 the price was a bonus.

As a side note, were you just accepted off the waiting list at one of them?

No, I wasn’t accepted off the wait list. I was accepted by Binghamton University way back in May, and has recently just applied to Marist College and got accepted. Because I’m transfer student, I don’t qualify to dorms, compelling me to live somewhere off campus. At Binghamton, on the other hand, I will be living on campus, which will provide me with a more college feel, as I don’t need to compute to class everyday.

Living on campus may make you feel more like you are part if the community. I vote for Binghamton.

If bing happens to be cheaper and you get to live on campus, then I’d choose that one. Otherwise, I’d wait until the financial aid results come out.

Marist college is actually on the list of Kepler’s best buy for college. This means that your return on investment will be good. Just to prove my point, 94% of Marist grads from 2013 are employed or enrolled in grad school. Mairst is a great college because of the size. We are a small school, but with big school opportunities. Big name companies come to hire Marist students, we have D1 sports teams that all students are allowed to go for free, the student teacher ratio is 16:1, upperclassmen housing was rated on Good Morning America as best upperclassmen housing, we have great advisors to guide you along the way, and other great things you can se eon a tour! As for the money part, there is $5 billion dollars in private scholarships. If you sit down and do the research any school can become affordable. Sit with your guidance counselor, go to the library, look online and you can find all the money you need. Don’t be afraid of Marist because it is private because private schools offer more money than public college. All the best!
