If you are a student who decided to attened Marist over Quinnipiac could you please post your reasons. Right now I have a tough decision to make Quinnipiac or Marist and I would like to know why a student who got into both would pick one over the other. Please reply and help me out.

Jerseyboy, I sent a pm to you.

Could you post your thoughts so rest of us can see. Probably others also considering those 2.
Thanks.

infopls, I assume that you were admitted to both too. If this is the case congratulations!

Marist- beautiful scenery, look at the view also from the library. Has a lot of rules and regs. You need to earn points to get into better dorms the following year. This will require participation with campus organizations/clubs and keeping up your gpa. It gets very cold there. Lots of individual attention for academics are available. Only one cafeteria, and then one where you can pay out of pocket. Lots of rules in the dorms as far as guests.

Quinnipiac- Did not seem as friendly as Marist, but it could just be the people that we came across. Many dorm rooms are huge, but there are 4 to a room. That sounds crowded to me. Lots of individual attention for academics. As a senior you currently will not get on campus housing, which means that you will need a car.

My son is interested in business, and programs at both seem pretty good.
Good luck, and I hope this helps you. The best thing to do would be to visit the 2 schools yourself, and see which you prefer.

marist lol i picked between marist and quinnipiac and marist too lol

Marist also has better stats if that matters....

i picked marist over quinnipiac

Hi Northeastmom,
I'm a mom too and my d is looking at Marist. Beautiful and scenic it is, but I'm not sure about the academic programs. I'd like to find out more about the school and it's requirements. What stats are required? Is the website accurate? Do they help the kids get internships, etc.
Any info is appreciated. Thanks

Midrange sats are 550-620v, and 550-630m. I found Marist's financial package for us to be the most reasonable out of all of the private schools my S applied to, but this did include a merit scholarship in his case. I have not been to the website in a long time, b/c my son is going to attend somewhere else. I looked at the parts of the website that interested me, and it seemed accurate. They seem to work closely with IBM for some internships. You may want to contact the career center for more specific information tailored to your D's major. If I can help you with anything, please send a pm.

"They seem to work closely with IBM for some internships."

I took a business management course at Marist during the Summer and the teacher had connections with IBM. We toured it and got talked to by some of the higher up people.

We visited Marist on Friday. They apparently are looking at all 3 parts of the SAT and told us the avg was 1762, ACT 26. They recalculate GPA and include only core courses FR-JR years, avg 3.3w. They also said ED apps are either accepted or rejected, whereas EA are either accepted, rejected or deferred. Great campus with a personal touch, just not sure if there is enough variety for my undecided (major) son. All the kids we saw and spoke with seemed very happy.

IBM is right down the road and supplies Marist with all their computers. There are very close ties and internships available.

Marist College is a great place to get an education. For start, we are considered a medium sized school, but are still able to offer a 16:1 student"teacher ratio! Housing on campus has been recognized by Good Morning America as some of the best housing in the country! 85% of the faulty here have obtained the highest degree in their field, this means that the teachers are well educated and understand what they are teaching, that being said a majority of the professors who are here, teaching is their second job. This is great because of all the connections your professors can provide to you for future employment. Marist also excels in all the majors we have on campus. For example our business program is top 5% in the country, we are in the process of renovating academic buildings and a new science building will be built with a PA program and a grad program. Marist offers a major in sport communication, most schools don’t have this. Marist is also one of five colleges to broadcast on ESPN. The fashion program has grown so much so that now Marist is hosting fashion shows during fashion week! The campus is beautiful and really a lot of fun! Marist also cares about students after they graduate. 6 months after the class of 2013 graduated, 94% of the students were either employed or in grad school. Marist is a great campus and I truly suggest you come and tour to find out more!
