D is planning on majoring in advertising/graphic design but is very interested in choirs and musical theater. Marist is small and personal like her high school experience and Miami is far from home but quite impressive. Can't decide, any comments?

My younger daughter and I just visited Marist this week. The info session preso and video I frankly founded overly promotional and salesy to the point of being kind of obnoxious. This is a liberal arts school why the necessity to bang the drum on IBM so much and this award and that – and I’m in computer sales :-)! The presenter nearly shouted the preso and talked so fast he gave little time to ask questions or think of any. However the student tour was terrific and our graduating senior host was very informative and enthusiastic, discussion of academic and student life left us with a very positive impression. University of Miami : My eldest daughter just transferred out as have many of her friends. The quality of the teaching was subpar and she soldiered through 3 terms. Just didn’t seem that serious of a school. We had the feeling that since the area is not a hotbed of educational institutions that the ability of the school to attract faculty that would be present in abundance in the Northeast just would not be the same. The campus environment is also somewhat isolated unless you make the 45 minute drive to SoBe or take the Metro which takes 2 hours.
