Anyone majoring in marketing out there? Is it an interesting field? Or do people major in business related fields for the job prospects after graduation? I'm a lowly liberal arts major thinking of switching to marketing or human resources.

Any pros and cons for my situation?!?

Whatever you do, don’t major in management or international business.

My god, people. Do what you enjoy, and stop relying solely on what anonymous people on a forum think is good (on this forum, the message is go to Wharton, and if that doesn’t happen, you better major in accounting or else you’ll live in a box). Marketing is I think the most interesting field, especially the brand management/more quantitative roles, but indeed it is a bit more difficult to get a decent job than accounting. With that said, you can still make a lot of money if you’re proactive about getting the good jobs (namely the P&G type of firms), plus, if you are smart and you like it, I think you’ll do better in marketing than finance just because finance is so damn competitive.

Btw, opened, I saw your reply on another thread I posted in. Do you go to UT-Austin?

The thing about management and international business is that they don’t really give you a useful skill and recruiters will tell you literally “anything but” those two for lots of jobs.

(Btw, I do. I’ll gladly try to answer questions if you have any.)

Majoring in Marketing and Management is fine…I go to UT and I am majoring in Management at McCombs…In the past month I have had interviews with the FBI, Facebook, Bank of America, and declined 6 others (3 being finance related jobs)…Majors do not matter as much as internship experience…TRUST ME ON THIS…major in what you want, keep your GPA high, and do as many internships/leadership positions as you can and you will be set (unless you are seeking BB Investment banking or something like that)
