Marketing Degree & What Minor?

I would like to work in entertainment, specifically be a part of the film/tv industry. I have decided to go with the business major marketing with a specialization in communications. However, I don’t know about the minor. I’m deciding between Television, Film, & New Media minor or the French minor. The reason I’m contemplating is because I do know the industry doesn’t really care about what you majored in & it’s all about talent & connections. I figured the French minor might help me get a job overseas & help me better my speaking (I’m not fluent, but I’m able to communicate quite well), but the media minor might look better on the resume & more appealing to the industry. What do you think? (Just realizing I posted a similar question on here before regarding where to go to school & major… Lol)

Oh & I’m going to San Diego State University in the fall. Class of 2020!!

I think you should minor in whatever you want to, as it’s not really going to make that much of a difference to employers - as you said, since the industry cares little what you major in, they are going to care even less what you minor in.

However, the minor in TFNM might give you some particular insight and/or knowledge into the art or industry that could be useful in your work and in interviews. Moreover, you can study French without minoring in it - in fact, not completing a minor might be better for you if you only want to take language classes, because language minors usually include culture and literature classes too.

Thank you so much! @juillet

The French minor won’t help you break into French media if you’re not a native speaker.

Take French classes - especially a class like 'French press’or 'French media’if it exists - but don’t minor in it. New media would be a good movie. But how about you wait till you’ve taken a few classes, and minor and whatever you like best?

Okay; thanks guys for all the advice! @Zhanger @MYOS1634
