Marketing Major

I've been pondering on this for a long long time since I started school. I'm currently under a marketing major in my business school because I figured marketing will help me with my goal in finding a job in advertising, becoming an art/creative director, magazine editing, etc. I have an immense interest and passion for art and creativity and simply adore the idea of working as an art/creative director in a (hopefully fashion, but not limited to!) magazine or something of the sort!

At this point, I'm not sure if I want to be majoring in marketing and minor in visual arts OR majoring in visual arts and then minor in marketing. Should I perhaps think of communications as a major? Does it make a difference? Am I even looking towards the right direction?

What are your thoughts?

Thanks!!

A marketing major with visual arts minor is excellent. An alternative could be an advertising major with a marketing or business minor. However, you do not need an art minor to show your art skill. A lot of marketing nowadays is digital, such as with Photoshop or even HTML programming. Pick up art skills on the side or take a few classes in order to prove your worth, but don’t give up the business marketing degree.

Based on your description, I’d major in marketing but minor in art.

I definitely think communications or an art-related degree would not be as strong as a marketing major. Business classes are a must and highly valuable.
