I know those 2 fields are quite unrelated.. and I am exploring various options in business (admitted to stern scholars program '10).

so what are the typical career paths after majoring in each major?
how is the study different?
is it just a slight difference in specilization (with mostly business core class) or two completely different discipline?

thanks for responses!

Finance:
Mostly you'll go do investment banking or some other kind of banking or financial management for a corporation.
Marketing:
Most likely you'll work for a marketing firm, or start at sales and eventually work towards marketing at a corporation.

Finance:
More math/analysis
Emphasis on financial markets
Marketing:
More creative

Completely different disciplines...
Finance/Accounting are similar and marketing/advertising are similar.

thanks for the response!
One more question: which one is more cutthroat and which one is more lucrative (on average)?

how much do the typical ibankers make right out of undergrad (for instance from USC or UCLA)

And how much do the typical marketer/sales make right out of undergrad (same colleges)

About $100k for undergrad ($60k base, $10k sign-on bonus, $30-60k discretionary bonus) for ibankers

Salespeople usually make their money through commission.
