Does anybody know what this program is about?

i got invited to it..got a letter in the mail a day or two after my acceptance package..basically its for students who applied to the business school but didnt get direct admissions but were still good enough students to be admitted to UMD. if im not mistaken, if u are invited to markets and society, u get preference for core business classes offered to those directly admitted to the business school..so i really dont know why they just dont admit us right into it anyway lol

Does anyone know how many % of the students in this program are admitted to the business school each year?

i was a direct admit to the business school so i'm not sure about other aspects of the program, but as far as the classes go.....
if you look at the course schedules online at testudo.umd.edu, you can see that there are certain sections of some underclass core courses you need for the business school (accounting 1, statistics, econ, for example) reserved for markets & society students only. so while students NOT in markets & society who want to get into the business school have to compete for spots in the "open to anyone" course sections, you guys will have places held for you. theoretically, this should make it easier for you to complete your requirements in time and be eligible to transfer in. :)

my boyfriend's in m&s. it's pretty much a program that prepares you to apply to the business school when you're at junior standing. you have these clusters, and there are about 3 classes in a cluster you take with the same people. it's not bad, it gets his business requirements out of the way. and yeah, the classes are smaller i believe, and they're reserved. it's not a bad program -- it's not as if you have to put extra time into it, it's just there to help you out. it's not to say that if you don't join m&s, you won't get into the business school, though. like lindz, i was a direct admit, but i heard the average gpa of last years class that got accepted into the business school as transfers (within umd) was a 3.7.

Thank you for info, Whiskers. If the average GPA of the transfer students is a 3.7, it appears that only a fraction of the M & S students (150 - 200 yearly) will be accepted into the business school. Do you have any idea how many transfer students (both internal and external) are admitted to the business school each year?

well, i'm not sure about an exact number, you can try looking at the business school's website. i do know, however, that the smith school is very popular here, and while this might be seen as a bad thing (too many people applying), i don't think that it will be so selective that only a small fraction gets in.
