Whacks, which dorm has the largest population of upperclassmen?

Hey, I'm a sophomore here at UofM and I have to be honest with you, if you got Markley try to transfer out of it. The place is like a depressing, old prison with dim lights and very little ventilation. Some of the rooms on the first floor are below ground with a small window high up on the wall that opens up to the grass outside. If you get one of those rooms you will be literally living in a hole in the ground.
But on the other hand, parties at Markley are WILD. People copulate like animals there during the dark winter months.

Judging from his posts, whacks was my RA this year. I won't disagree with much that he said. Yeah, it probably is the worst building on campus.

I'm assuming for most people (freshmen that wanted to live on central campus, more likely to be partiers and LSA people), paragraph five will be the most important for you. I agree with all of that, and that is a big part of why I enjoyed Markley.

Yeah, Markley is the whitest dorm on campus. U-M is a place filled with kids that come from well-to-do areas, I wasn't really surprised by anything. I pretty much do what I have to do and would have been fine with anything, but it was easier to have kids from similar upbringings around me.

I disagree with the walks though. It's not too bad. It sucks in winter but it is definitely doable. I wouldn't say it is much different than walking to and from the subway and such during a Manhattan winter. Ten minutes of walking at a time shouldn't kill you. whacks is from Singapore though, so it probably did kill him. :p

haha, way to catch me dave. Despite everything I said about Markley, I gotta admit... 5th van tyne was awesome.

Nick: No dorm really has a lot of upperclassmen. Almost everyone leaves after 2nd year. If I had to guess, I'd say maybe West Quad, South Quad or Couzens. They seem pretty popular as far as people wanting to live there after freshman year.

anyone have any positive Markley stories?

Most people actually liked living in Markley. In fact, at the beginning of the year, I had people e-mail and facebook message me offering $500 or so to switch rooms with them in to Bursley. There are the negatives: small rooms, farther from Central Campus, etc. but the positives far outweigh. It's a lot of fun, it's not North Campus, etc.

Markley is a good dorm, I lived there last year as a freshman. The place is full of first-years, so its really easy to meet people in the dorms. The dorms are kind of small, but its not too bad. Its about a 10-15 minute walk to Central Campus, which can be quite annoying, but its good exercise.

What really sucks was on home football games you would have to walk a LONG way to get ot the stadium.

Markley's location isnt all as bad as people say it is. Its not bursley, thats for sure. Its really close to the CCRB and hospital. And if you an enginnering student like me, the bus ride up to north campus is MUCH faster than if you started from South/West Quad.

Its also not a far walk to Washtenaw Ave., where there are usually lots of frat and house parties
